Will we see a revival in the barter system in the US economy?

It seems that more and more "swap shops" and second hand stores are cropping up in my area. There also seems to be an increase in individuals willing to barter for services or products. I have not seen this so much in businesses, but in individuals who do odd jobs or sell used items. I have been wondering if businesses, such as local grocers, gas stations, etc., might soon adopt this as a way of doing business. There is a doctor in our area who will accept food and services from patients as compensation for care, but pnly one that I know of. I think it's wonderful way for people with little financial resources to obtain needed items or services, as well as a means of recycling things that would have previously been discarded. What's your opinion? What trends are you seeing where you live?
