Would you bring baby to travel?

Travelling with baby - Many people like to travel, and even they have a few month old baby, they will still bring their baby along when they are traveling.

When I was in Bali island, Indonesia, I saw theis couple from Germany carrying a 5 months old baby. They told me that they like to travel and because of that, they do not mind to bring their 5 months old baby along. For me, I will not bring my few months old baby to travel, it is not only inconvenience, but also, it is not a really good idea to bring baby to the crowded area where the baby immune system have not been really build up yet, so it is dangerous to bring a few months old baby along just to avoid any unnecessary infection. What is your view on this? Will you bring your baby to travel?

I don't particularly like travelling with baby, but that's just my personal thing. I am not organised enough to go travelling with baby. I don't mind it as such, but it does take its toll on me, travelling with babies, that is. I took my children to visit their grandparents in England every year, sometimes twice a year, and took them to Goa for a holiday. As far as infection goes, they can get it anywhere. I personally don't think travelling gives them more infection.

I think if your baby is more than a year old, it will be safer to bring them for travel, otherwise, they will be more easily get infected but not more infection. For me, if they still need things like diapers, milk and a lot of sleep. I will prefer to stay at home rather than bring them to go our to suffer. At least you know where to find what you want if something happen to them.

Normally, we don't bring along our new born baby to travel far away unless no one is taking care of the baby at home. If we bring a new born baby along to travel far away, I think the baby is suffering under the hot sun, rain, strong wind and so on which might not be expected in the journey. It is wise to keep the baby at home for someone reliable to take care.

That is true, baby will suffer from all the unexpected condition of weather that will affect our "fragile and vulnerable" baby. It is good to keep them at home until they are fit for outdoor activity. At least they need time to build up their immune system.

Hello yspmyl, I traveled with my three months old baby in train which was two day long journey but was inevitable. I am working in a distant place and I had to travel to that place with my small baby, it happened twice, with my two kids. Otherwise if I can avoid the travel with a small baby then I avoid the same. For eg. I have seen that people go for a shopping with their month old baby; I can’t appreciate that and that also in the extreme climate. If I am in their place, I prefer to stay at home with my baby and send my hubby to get the things.

Hi Sreekala, It is always not an easy task to travel with few months old baby. You have to bring along so many thing for the baby and what I have experience is that more than half of my luggage were filled with my baby stuff and that was only for a short distance journey. I never bring my baby to shopping and also those clouded places, to avoid unnecessary infection.

i don't know if I will but my parents took me and my sister where ever they traveled to when I was just a few months old. I don't hear them complaining about anything happening to us or us getting sick. They just tell us it was fun with th ekids and I love seeing the pictures now though I don't remember a thing.

You don't remember anything at all that you were traveling with your parents? I think you parents really like the fun having the whole family to go travel together. I believe it will be nice and fun if the children are healthy during the trip. But I just do not like to take the risk.

I know what you feel about that. For me it is not really advisable to travel a baby. Yes, you're right when it is about the child's health. Parents should place on there mind that their child's' health is at risk.

i think that it is difficult to bring a few months old baby along in your vacation.. the changing of diapers, the crying, feeding, changing of clothes, carrying - these are just few of the things to be done.. also, like you said, i think that it is not advisable to bring a baby in crowded places where he/she can come in contact with a lot of viruses..

I think that it is lovely to take a baby traveling so he or she grows up used to traveling. I took my son to Portugal when he was 4 month old. I flew from Bristol to Faro. During my stay I took him on a train up to Lisbon and back again. Then when he was 13 months old I took him on a plane from Bristol to Riga in Latvia. We saw Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia on that lovely trip. Next I did long haul trips with him and we had the journey to London Heathrow. I was 18 weeks pregnant and my son was 20 months old. We had a five hour delay and then a 12 hour flight from London to Cape Town. We left in winter and had summer sunshine in South Africa. We did Cape Town and the Garden Route. Months after we got back my daughter was born. I booked a flight to Halifax in Canada and planned to see Prince Edward Island. However our flights got canceled. So I decided to book a flight to Vancouver. I took my son aged 3 and my daughter aged 11 months on a flight from London to Vancouver. My daughter had her first birthday in Victoria on Vancouver Island. I had my thirty eighth birthday in Vancouver. This year we traveled from London to Cartagena De Indias via Madrid and Bogota. My son was 3 years old and my daughter was 19 months old. We went to Cartagena De Indias and Santa Marta. My son is disabled so it was challenging with his wheelchair there.

Wow! You are really good and can manage to travel with baby around. I doubt I can do the same with baby around. Last week when I went to Bali Island with my 2 year old son, he was sick for the whole week there and that we have lose some fun where we have to stay in the hotel and take care of him. He have got a fever since we boarded the airplane. And the first day we were traveling around the island with car and he keep coughing and vomited a few time during the journey. That make us decided not to go to anywhere the next day but just to stay in the hotel for him to rest. That is my worst experience to travel with children and I really admire you that you can go to so many place together with your baby.
