I have been looking into auto and home insurance rates and just realized I am paying approximately $60 a month more than I probalby should be. I am with Farmers and went out to get quotes from other carriers, Geico and Progressive, and their rates were much better for the same coverage. I have never had an issue with Farmer's and their customer representatives have always been helpful but why pay more? When I called to see if they would match the other offers they straight out said no. I have been with them for over seven years and never needed their services. I would think they would accommodate a loyal customer. It seems not. Does anyone have experience with other carriers either positive or negative. Is switching worth while?

Really all depends. We were with Geico for about 6 years, moved 45 minutes away and our rates went up so we switch to USAA. Then my husband went back into the military, we moved from La to Ca and USAA raised our rates when we renewed by about $400 a year. We got rates form Geico, Progressive, State Farm and Allstate. Progressive, Allstate and State Farm all had rates close to USAA, however Geico was a lot less. By switching back to Geico we saved over $1200/year

Thanks for the input sedel. That is who gave me the best quote so far. How do you find the customer service? I haven't had a need to file a claim but just general customer service?

I have always found them to be pleasant and easy to deal with. I can't say I have called them very often though. The only claims we have had were glass claims for chips, which were done online. In 2009 I called because my husband was having shoulder surgery would not be driving his car for a few months. We were allowed to place the car on "storage" status and when we put his car back active we received a credit towards our policy for a percentage (I think 50%) of the policy on his car we had paid when his car was in storage. Wasn't a huge credit but it covered what was left on our policy.

I have Erie Insurance and I have not had any problems at all. Also I get a cheap rate. Maybe it would be worth checking into for you.Good luck and take care.

Thanks soapies. I am just looking for ways to save money. I was actually surprised by how much cheaper other insurance companies were. $60 a months is enough to change if I find positive responses to other carriers.
