Tomorrow - being the second Sunday of May - is Mothers' Day for many countries and in each and every country, we of course our own way of calling our mothers. Here in the Philippines, "Mama" is the most common term used. Other terms being used here are "Inay" - this is almost obsolete now because the term is quite an 'archaic' Tagalog and is usually associated with historical stuff and/or provincial representation in TV shows; "Nanay" is another which I believe, evolved from Inay (but I'm not a hundred percent sure of that; and "Mommy" - well, before this used to be for the well-off Filipinos only, but recently almost all Pinoy kids call their mothers as "Mommy" already. I call my mother "Nanay". I love it that way it gives a taste of respect and deep love. How about you? How do you call your Nanay?

I call her nanay and all the grandchildren call her "nanay",too. Nobody in the family has the same name even most of us her children are already mothers like her. That name is only for her to set her above us. She's the Nanay, who whom we all respect and love.

When I was in grade school I was ashamed to call my mother nanay because all my classmates were calling theirs mommy or mama. As I grew older I learned to appreciate the word more as it's more patriotic and more sincere than the borrowed language. Now that I'm a mother I preferred to be called nanay rather than mommy. When my son calls me nanay, I have so much pride and warmth inside me.one time though, my son asked me of he could start calling me mommy instead and I said okay. However it didn't even last a day and he went back to calling me nanay.

I'm hardly a affectionate daughter but a call by mother a name that is quite unique. When my mother is around, I call her Meh. I don't how it started or why I did call her that - perhaps I got tired of the long Mommy, Mama or any other name that people call their mothers. Besides I cannot imagine myself calling my mother Mommy - I sounded kinda cheesy, childish and ordinary to me. So I call her Meh when my mother is around. But in my cellphone, she has a different name. She is listed as Mere in my contacts. Mere is the French name for mother - I also don't know why but I feel it suits her. Besides, the contact name is a longer version of what I call her. People would often ask for her number and ask why is my mother's name Mere? I just laugh at them. Compared to my brother who called our mother Mam, I think mine was pretty good attempt of naming our mother. Don't ask me why he calls her that.

For me i call my mom as mama..that's the word i always address to my mom. Sometimes i call her mother dear, the way she makes me feel i'm not alone, she's the best mom ever. If i have to ask anything from GOD that would be the day that i make my mama proud of me for giving her best inorder for me to grow as a good person.

Over here I call my mom... Mom! I don't think I have called her mommy since I was 8 or 9 and don't think I've called her anything else *nice at least lol* I don't think I would call her anything else, and I know for most people around here it's mom, mommy, momma, mother. Though I wish i was british so I could call my mom Mum, because that right there is the coolest word ever!

When i was a child I called her mommy. As i grew older it changed to just mom. As a teenager, it was often mother. I never really had any other nicknames for my mother. she was just mom to me.

I call my mother by her name, which is the word that identifies every single person as an individual, and my mother as an individual has the right to be called by her name too In this country moms can be called by many different names, like mama or okaasan, but some people like me choose to call them by their names too.

I call my mother Mama too- but my father calls my grandmother Inang.. the word for mother is quite many, and there are already lots of variations from the first ones, but whatever we call our mother it doesn't really matter as long as we love and respect them .
