Can i ask what kind of dog do you have? If it's a hairy dog, please don't let it swim on the beach as it would ruin its hair and you would find it difficult to groom after because of the salt water. So if you have a shih tzu then don't let it swim in the beach. I had a rott before and he enjoyed the water but I didn't let him stay long enough in the water. Let the dogs naturally swim and never force it when it doesn't want to.

Leaving the Pet Behind - Lovely Dog
I've never brought along my pet dog in a beach. I would rather just leave my pet at home rather than bring him alone because if I bring him to the beach it is either he got scared of the waves or the people around might just get disturbed with his presence.

Well I cant give you any tips for helping him swim etc, but please be wary of other beach goers. My dad would take me to the beach as a little kid and I'd be there happily playing in a rock pool and from nowhere, some big lollopy dog would come bounding over to me barking its head off. I was always so terrified. There was nowhere at all for me to run to get away from them because the beach is so big, and I think this is why I'm so scared of dogs these days. so whilst you're teaching your dog about swimming, also teach him that its not okay to go bothering other people.
