Are there sercets to learning a new language?

Hello, My name is Chris and I'm 17 year olds. I want to know if there is a sercet to learning a new language. I want to learn spanish and japanese. I been trying to learn on my own, but it's hard for me to focus on and memorize the language. So I would like to know some tips and sercets.

Spend more time listening,not reading.That's how you learned your mother tougue when you were a little baby.That can also be applied to learning a new second language.

I'd recommend Lang-8 .com and livemocha.com, you can learn for free from native speakers, always be prepared to have a go, Leon.

Try Rosetta Stone. I beleive that is how you spell it. They I hear are great when teaching someone to speak a new language.

You must search for a tutor to teach you... You know all language is the most beautiful thing you ever know, I know quite a few language, such as, Malay, Arabic, Afrikaans and you know what english isn't my first language..

You're probably best off trying to learn one new language at a time. Apart from that, is there any chance of going there on holiday? Using a language is just about always the best way of learning it. Like you say, it's hard to memorise it when you just have lists of grammar rules. Or, if you've got to a certain level, you could try reading books or websites in the language, or maybe listening to the radio or watching TV? Really, anything which exposes you to it is good.
