As I mentioned in my last post, my nephew was killed in a motorcycle accident in Thailand on Monday. I was sent a link to a local newspaper article and thought I would go ahead and share it so that I could feel like there is closure on the incident. Instead of having only third hand information, I now have something that was provided by someone who was in the area at the time of the accident. There isn't much detail, but at least I know more than I did before. http://paiexplorer.com/?p=3761 News | 0 comments EN: Young American Dies Tragically Yesterday, a long stay expatriate American boy known to locals as Zach, died in a tragic motorcycle accident that occurred adjacent to the Pai high school. Although no-one apparently saw the incident, revelers sitting in Buffalo Hill at approximately 1am in the morning heard a loud crash as his motorbike ploughed head-on into an electricity line support pole. Foreigners who rushed to assist, managed his airway & kept him alive until the ambulance arrived. The injuries, however, were extensive & Zach was rushed to Chiang Mai where unfortunately he died later that afternoon.

Wow that has to be hard to have heard. I am very sorry for your families loss. Although very tragic it at least lets you all know what and how it all happened. My prayers to you and all his family.

I still can't help but wonder if he was under the influence or something. His friend said no, but you never know. Another possibility was that he could have had a major seizure right before impact and couldn't do anything. I don't know if my brother will look into that possibility or not. He was epileptic most of his life, but they thought he had grown out of it. Thanks for the response.

Although the article was somewhat sketchy, it sounds like there were people who were there very quickly. I had been in that community for about a week two years ago, but I don't remember where the high school was or where the hill it talked about in the article was. The picture was great. I just wish I knew how to upload a picture from the net without it being considered plagiarism. Maybe when my brother recovers Zac's computer we can get some really good pictures of the area so that we can all remember him for the good times and not just the bad. Thanks for the response!

I am sorry for your loss. I wonder if he fell asleep and thus crashed the pole. Hugs to you my friend.

I don't know if he fell asleep or had a massive seizure. He tended to be a night owl most of the time anyway so my suspicion is it might have been the latter. I guess unless someone talks to his friends, we will never know. Thanks for the response.

I'm sorry for your loss Daeckardt. Surely too young to have passed away so young.

Definitely too young, but with the level of testosterone he had raging through his system, it is not very surprising. We knew it was just a matter of time. I just wish the time wasn't now. I have enough of my own problems to deal with without having to deal with this as well. Thanks for the response!

There are so many possibilities of what might have happened. Before my brother talked to the guy who facebooked him, we thought he was on his way to a visa run, but he was actually in town at 1am. He may have been hallucinating or maybe he had a massive seizure, but I don't think they will ever know. I think even if they did an autopsy, it probably wouldn't show signs of a seizure so I don't know if he will bother with the expense. I guess his friends it Pai are collecting money for cremation and will help my brother and niece out while they are there. He did just buy his plane ticket and now he needs to get Emily's as one of his purposes in going is to see his daughter and I'm sure the trip would help her deal with the loss of her older brother.
