In Malaysia there is this Zoo and its main attraction is an orangutan (you know those orange cute monkeys) I dont know how did she learn to have this very unhealthy vice but this orangutan who is named Shirley is said to be hysterical if she doesn't have cigar, she always beg for smokes. In other words she is addicted. I think the zoo keepers were even supportive of her vice. Because she is a chain smoking orangutan, many visitors got curious to see her, making her the main attraction of the zoo. http://xenophilius.wordpress.com/2011/05/10/shirley-the-chain-smoking-orangutan-reveals-the-cruel-horror-of-malaysian-zoos/

It shouldn't be tolerated. Animals shouldn't be taught those things.

I wonder if there is a way to help her stop her addiction.

Hiya Captain Maybe this one got an escape from the Testing Labs of some medical research Anyways, it is sad to see such things happen. And for visitors - they are always after things that look unnatural and this one for sure is one.

I think this chimp is born and raised in the zoo, so most likely its her caretakers who influenced her to be a chain smoker. she is already 25 years old so you can imagine how much damage her lungs have.

I think they need to give her some injections or something. I saw this thing on discovery about teaching chimps pictograms and how to do humanly tasks. One liked to go camping and making smores. It started the fire. My monkey starts fires. What does yours do.

what kind of injections are you talking about? I know chimps can do some humanly task, I had seen some of them making their own toys and I did see some opens a nut with a rock. I was concerned with the health of this chimp though
