When you have to rotate around your shifts like this it can be hard. I know people that work regular jobs where they are constantly switching. In my working yrs. though, I have worked a lot of different shifts. It can take some getting used too each time you have to work a different shift, and take some time getting used too. You need to just try to find ways to make your body relax to where you can sleep and hope for the Best from there.

I have also switched from working a day shift to working a night shift so I know how you feel! I would feel so tired but my body would refuse to go to sleep. On occasion, I would have to take some Benedryl or Tylenol PM. I hate to tell you to take sleep medicine but at times I would have to.

For me make your room dark as if you in the night time then close tightly so that no sound effect would hear then after all you have to sleep tight.

Hi monicabhea, Try having a massage in the spa before going to bed. If you’re so tired, try calling the home service massage. This is just a phone call away. Massage will help you to reduce your stress and can add up to relax your muscle. I’m pretty sure after having a massage you can have a good day sleep. Then, getting up in the evening will be very productive to you. Have a great day!

Hi Monica, I work in night shifts too... here are a few tips... First of all, take that thing off your mind that you are working in night shift... Ignore it!!! That will help a lot... Secondly, when you reach home, please make your bedroom as much sleepy as you can... Like, make it dark... Close the door n windows... Switch on AC or Fan to keep it cool... Lie down and think of nothing but sleep only... You'll be tired n the atmosphere will help settling things... I have been into night shifts for an year and half and that is how I coped up with my problem... :) take care...

I also work at night and it took me a while to adjust to that lifestyle. In the beginning I found it hard to sleep during the day, and I wasn't able to fall sleep when I got back from work. Now I have been working nights for a while, and I have gotten used to that lifestyle. When I get back home early in the morning, I don't go to bed straight away. I need to relax a little, before I am ready to go to bed so I read or listen to music for a while. In the beginning the daylight and the neighbour's noise bothered me when I had to sleep during the day, but it is not a problem anymore. I hope that you will also get used to the different lifestyle.

The shifting of the working hours will be very painful experience. We have to again adjust to those working hours. I would not prefer the job where rotational shifts are applicable. I would suggest that you leave the job and find a better one where there is no rotational shifts. However, you may try to convince your team leader to avoid the graveyard shift.

Hi Monicabhea, when you are working, turn all the lights on brightly. That will fool your body into thinking that it is daytime. Drink lemon juice instead of coffee to keep awake. For some of us, our body feel feverish with lack of sleep, and that causes constipation as well. Drinking lemon juice will sort of cool down the body, and make us awake in the night. Coffee has a lingering effect when you finally reach home. Too much caffeine can cause you to have a restless time in bed. Use black tape and aluminium foil to tape all the windows in the bedroom. Then sleep as if it is night time.

It'll be a while before you adjust. If you really wanna sleep in the morning, try taking sleeping pills. That's what I did when I was in graveyard shift. It worked although you still have to quit it after adjusting to your time schedule. You don't want to depend on pills.

Since another already talked about what to do to your room to make it comfortable to sleep, other suggestions might be a sleeping pill to aid you. If you are not on a lot of meds and don't need a doctors advice try one over the counter. It can take quite a while to adjust to sleep during the day. If you continue to have problems see your doctor after you have tried everything else. I worked evenings and nights for many years around my childrens schedules. Even when I ran my own business out of my house because I did not have to stop and start. My system is all messed up through the years so my doctor had to put me on something. I will not sleep if I don't have a sleeping pill. Good Luck. My rheumatologist said my body will never adjust because I did this for many years. Another item you might get is a black mask to put over your eyes for sleep. My rhuematologist told me to get one of these. Good Luck. Changing shifts are horrible.
