Remote desktop is a great feature of Windows XP and all other O.S released after that by Microsoft. You just need to have system I.P and Administrator ID and password to connect to a computer remotely. Its a great thing to know any issue on a remote system, it just feel you are working on that system itself. just type mstsc on run in Win XP to initiate remote desktop.

It takes I.P for connection, if IP is on locall network it connects via LAN, if its IP over internet it then u need to select the connect mode(TCP/IP in case of of internet)

No, remote desktop is a name given to many softwares that can run on Windows, Unix, Linux, BSD, Mac systems, and many more. Microsoft couldn't write such a program - they have "borrowed" it as usual!

Remote desktop refers to a number of different application softwares that allow you to view your desktop and "work" your computer from another computer on the same network. It has to be installed and setup on both computers, so it is quite safe to use normally. However, if the network is actually the Internet, then that is another matter! It can be hacked very easily, and your computer will be wide open for the hacker to do as he/she wishes. I wonder if your friend's clients realize that he can see everything on their computers. It seems a very lazy way to do business to me!

Of the many different programs, there is one called VNC which is available for many platforms. For example, you can connect Linux and Windows computers together. Why would you do that? Well, you can have multiple computers but you only need one keyboard and mouse, and just one monitor!

It is software that will allow you to connect to another computer, view the other desktop and use that computer as if you were there and then. You can move the mouse, type, do just about anything. It is essential in providing customer support on software problems remotely. Probably the best way to do it is the Teamviewer application. Do note however that if you need to use this for commercial purposes you need to buy it. Have a nice day!
