Do you ever have to pay taxes/custom fees when you order books abroad?

Hi there MyLotters! I recently ordered books from an online shop offering free delivery worldwide (it's based in UK) but I read there that local customs fees and taxes should be shouldered by the buyer. The books haven't arrived yet and I'm kind of worried how much the customs is going to bill me. Have you experienced shopping online and have your local post office charged you with those fees? Please share! I'm from the Philippines by the way and the online store is based in UK.

I have experienced that situation once. I ordered some books from the US and when I picked them up at the post office I had to pay a huge fee. I was a little shocked when I discovered what kind of amount I had to pay. I knew that would be some kind of fee, but I didn't think that it would be such a big amount of money. Since that time I have never used the American bookshops and I always try to buy things in a shop in the UK instead of the US to avoid the customs. (I live in Europe and I don't have to pay customs when I buy something within the European Union)
