I'm getting over a bad head cold, but the cough seems to keep going, I've been taking an over the counter cough medicine but it has little to no effect on my cough
And the cough is keeping me awake during bedtime does anyone have a good safe home remedy I could try? and why does a cough last so long after other cold symptoms are gone? COUGH,COUGH!

Hey,
Well at the end of cold, your body needs to get rid of the excess bacteria that is still left and that happens through coughing and sneezing. A good home remedy is to heat up water, add a full teaspoon of honey and add sliced a piece of lemon. Drink that 3 times a day and trust me that cough will be gone before you know it!!
Get better
Nathalie.

Hi. apples99. It is because you still have cold/mucous that is left inside of your chest. I think that you should take some cough medicine that loosens up the phelgm of your respiratory. This will help to relieve your cough. You also need to take a cough suppressant that will help to relieve your coughing too. I hope that by now you are feeling so much more better. Take care.

Hi there,
For me too they last long after my cold is gone. The only thing I can think of is that the membranes or something like that are so dry that by coughing it is a way to moisten the throat. Though I think when I have a cough my throat is super dry. lol
