Tendency to be Left handed and penmanship.

I know someone with sloppy penmanship who was forced as a child to use their right hand instead of their natural tendency to use their left. In my opinion this may be the cause for poor penmanship. In the same family, a sibling was left handed and allowed to use their left hand and has very nice penmanship. I wonder if my theory makes sense. It does to me :)

sorry to put a hole in your theory, but I am left-handed and have the worse handwriting. This is another good reason I am taking my classes online, most of my work is typed, including my notes for my research paper, because I can't even read my handwriting...

It's a good theory though, reminds me of my youngest daughter. My oldest daughter told me when her little sister was just starting to use a pencil, she'd use her left hand and her dad made her use her right hand..If I had known I would have jump down his throat, but as it is, he'll deny it now, 20 years later...So my younger daughter feels that she should have been left handed, though her writing isn't as bad as mine, she doesn't like it..

That is the same thing that happened to my daughter but it was her Grandmother who made her use her right hand not her left. Her penmanship is awful. LOL that's probably why I have this theory

My sister is left handed. Our mom forced her to be a right handed too, but her penmanship is beautiful, whether she uses right or left. So I really don't think being forced to be right handed is an issue regarding poor penmanship. In fact, her penmanship is better than mine.

I see more and more agreeing with you. One of my best friends uses both hands and has distinctive but good penmanship using either hand.

Being forced to use your right when you favor your left has been linked to some nervous conditions such as stuttering. Some neuroscientist think it is a strong link, others think there is no link. I've been told that only left-handed people are in their 'right' minds. That is because if you are left-handed your right side of the brain is dominant. And visa-versa. As for penmanship, I've had to try and decipher so many doctor's handwriting and some are right-handed and some are left-handed, I don't think it matters what hand you favor, sloppy handwriting is the result of not practicing cursive till you get it right in grade school. I went to Catholic grade school back in the 60's and those nuns would torture you with assignments to write entire pages out of books until your handwriting was acceptable. And yes, the really did wack your knuckles with rulers! I have been told I have pretty handwriting, yet when I get in a hurry its as messy as it can be. I took a caligraphy course and I can make some beautiful posters too.

It is he first time I have heard this theory- I know someone who is left handed, but the penmanship isn't that good. It really depends on the person, I guess. I do believe that kids inherit the penmanship of their parents, since my kids did.

Hi! I really don't know why a person has poor penmanship. But as I have observed most lefties have poor penmanship than those who are right handed. I'm right handed but unfortunately I have a poor penmanship..heheh
