"Area 51:" NOT Just About "U.F.O.s?" (Are YOU Curious?)

Okay, this is not about extra terrestrials (maybe), whether green, gray or bug-eyed, nor about flying saucers or invasions nor secret government bases (maaaaybe...), but about the whole concept of "areas" such as number 51. I have questions. Questions I've never even heard asked, let alone answered, & I'm turning to you first, fellow MyLotters, hoping you can save me countless hours of picayune research. Today I was half-watching a program on TV about UFOs over Illinois, & the phrase "Area 51" cropped up, as it usually does in these sort of programs. But for some reason, for the first time, an new idea popped into my head about the famous old address. * What exactly constitutes an "area?" * Since there is an area 51, where are areas 1 through 50? Are (or were) there more? * Is this just a U.S. thing, or world-wide? * Who decided where the areas are? * Who mapped them out, & why? * How big are they, or are they different sizes (& shapes)? * Are the areas merely pinpoints, or is there a grid of contiguous "areas?" * Do they always center around military bases, or are they the home of other significant centers, & if the latter case, what kind of places are they? * Are they all secret? If so, why? If not, why don't we hear of them? * Should we be concerned about them? I probably could ask more questions, but these are just the first ones off the top of my head, & sufficient to underline my ignorance. Does anyone have actual knowledge--not mere speculation or rumor--knowledge, of the answers? Does anyone else have questions which I didn't list that we could ponder? apparently it IS a map grid, and the people that work there call it "Groom Lake" for the dried lake bed that makes such a good landing field... Also, saw recently (like this week) that the area has been declassified and it was for developing then cutting edge air craft...

Have you seen the map of the grid? If you have, what does it look like? Can you answer any of my other questions? I thought it was declassified (& shut down) ages ago! Yes, I knew it was called Groom Lake, & that they tested SOTA aircraft there. It's all the other questions I want answered, though. well, declassified as in... people can now talk about what they did for jobs out there... no, no idea of a map, but it sounds like the crazy stuff they'd've done back around the turn of the century...

Your brain and my brain work along very similar lines. Here's what I found: http://science.howstuffworks.com/space/aliens-ufos/area-51.htm http://www.dreamlandresort.com/faq/faq_name.html There doesn't appear to be areas 31-50. Why is that? But there is an area 15 next to area 51? There are areas 1-30 though. The mystery deepens! WHO decided what number to label it with and why? Though the name Area 51 is used in official CIA documentation, it has many other names. wikipedia

You actually asked questions, at least some of them, that I never thought of asking. I wonder if anyone here does know anything, or will say anything.

Glad to hear I'm not alone in my ignorance! Good point, that last (she says, looking over her shoulder...). Will they say anything, if they know...? Maggiepie "Flush twice; it's a long way to Washington." ~ Source unknown

I have no answers for you but this would make a good article for Conspiracy Theorist magazine... (IF there were such a thing, of course ).

Quita!? Did you read my post? Where did you get that I was "worried about little green men (or where they come from--or crash)"??? I know all about Area 51--I'm asking about the NON-secret base areas! Better go get some sleep & smell a few roses yourself, hon! Area 51 is nothing but a secret place for American scientists who are involved in secret inventions and researches that will be benefited to US Army. Some people think it is the place where they kept Aliens but it is completely wrong because if there is any alien exist in this world, it can not be prison ed because if he is capable of traveling so far from his planet to our then think how much technically skilled he or his friends will be. Now a days we are not capable of crossing our Solar-System.
