Yes you heard that right. This month we will perform marriage of Goddess ‘Parvati’ with God ‘Shiva’ on 6th of this month with full rituals like our Hindu marriages. My city has several temples of our Hindu Gods and Goddesses. Many of them are ‘Shiva’ temples where God Shiva is worshipped with his wife Parvati. Four of them are hundreds of years old. Every year, on a particular day, of our Hindu calendar, the marriage festival of Shiva and Parvati is performed, this year it falls on 6th of June 2011. This is known as ‘SITALSASTI’ festival. Persons capable of performing such marriage ceremony apply to the temple trustee; finally 8 couples are selected for the 4 marriage festivals in these 4 temples. Four couple will act as parent of Shiva and four as parent of Parvati. The ceremony will be performed like marriage of human beings. Parent of Shiva will come to parent of Parvati with proposal of marriage, it will be accepted. Next Shiva (His Idol) will come in a procession to the couples’ home who act as parent of Parvati, on 6th of June, where the wedding will be performed with full Hindu rituals. Next day Shiva will go back to temple with his spouse. My nephew and his wife have been chosen as parent of Parvati by the trustee of ‘Gudeshwar Baba Temple’ here near my home. The ceremony will last for almost a week. We have started the preparation, there will be a gathering of all our friends and near and dear ones, on the last there will be the marriage feast too, we will be feeding around 1500 guests. I feel so excited; hubby is passing most time in nephew’s home giving instructions. We consider ourselves lucky; it is due to good deeds of our past life, our ‘karma’. I request mylot friends, who honor all religions to remain present with us, mentally, though not physically and grace this occasion. So please be blessed. Any such festival there? Please respond and share your views. Kalyani ‘Namastey’. . God bless you to enjoy a lucky day ahead.
