In connection with my previous post on some hacker's infiltration of a PayPal account here is another move by the site to protect it's members/users from fraud and hacking of some online robbers. PayPal has been working on securing your hard earned money online. As one of the leading superiors of payment processing and medium of money exchanges Paypal has this additional security feature. I got this from PayPal site. The PayPal Security Key creates random temporary security codes that help safeguard your PayPal account when you log in. It comes in 2 types, each with different advantages: 1. Security Key: You can carry this small credit-card sized device with you. It creates a unique security code on the go. 2. Mobile phone security key: You can sign up to get security codes sent by text message to your mobile phone. ADVANTAGES and DISADVANTAGES: 1.The first option is quite costly, it would cost you $29.95 but there would be no continuing fees or whatsoever charges monthly. That's a fixed price. But if you lost it replacement cost is the same. It's handy though, and you can carry it wherever you go. 2.For text messaging option, the second one, there's no fee to activate but normal text messaging rate applies when you receive a security code by SMS. You also need to check it with your mobile service provider. It says "when you receive a security code" which means every time you receive, that's a continuing cost which might just exceed the cost of option number one. Plus, if you lost your phone, it's over, hackers can access your security code, unless you get to block your number or whatsoever. Choose at your own risk. I cited the pros and cons somehow, open for additional views. Yes, it isn't the total solution for our problem. And paypal is now asking security questions and security key when you log in from a different location.
