Ok, now that I've gotten that out of my system, I'll tell you why I'm freaking/happy/panicking. Our female gerbil is freaking pregnant. I noticed the bulging earlier today. So now we have 2 tanks set up with a tunnel running into both of them, but the gerbils haven't figured out how to use it. I hope they learn soon, they're each in their own tanks right now. She looks to be due at any time, I'd give her less than a week. They were 5 weeks old when we got them in April. I am so not ready for this, but I have to deal with it.

Wow Grandparents. lol I think I remember you saying it was hubby who wanted to breed them, if so then I am sure he will be excited and being the pet lover that you are you will be so ready and willing. Best of luck and hope all comes out well with the new ones.

He wanted to breed hamsters, but we only have one left, so at least we'll have babies of another type here.

I am afraid I cannot help you much with this. I guess we will get to see pictures and such, right? How does your hubby feel?

He's happy about it. We got another tank and have an interesting setup for them now, but unfortunately neither of them have figured out how to climb the tunnels into the other tanks.

Atleast its just a gerbil. If I came home pregnant, hubby would hit the ceiling. Lol

We're not ready for kids yet, certainly not ready for gerbil babies though either. Oh well, at least it's little bundles that wont cost much to take care of, unlike children.

Wow, that is quick. I don't know much about the life/reproductive cycle of gerbils, but it seems like they start reproducing really young. I hope everything goes well with this. It sounds like you have a real menagerie! Have a great week!!!

It sure will be different. I just wait and wonder when we'll see the babies.

That's great, then. Having pets at home can be entertaining most of the time. I have a puppy, the usual pet. I like it when he surprises me whenever I arrive home, it just feels great knowing there's someone (or something) more than happy to express his excitement over my presence.

I want to know what good gerbils have done that the rats have not. Don't they look the same? I had to run helter, skelter to get rid of the brood that some female rat left in my store room and here you are all ga ga about your female gerbil being pregnant![em]rofl[/em.

I haven't seen a gerbil yet any time but I think you can try this way. you can use their food to lead them go through the tunnel. use a thread to tie their food and pull the other end. Enjoy it. I hope this work.
