Every now and then, a foreign country advises their citizens here to take caution and at the same time, cautions its citizens not to go to our coutnry for various reasons. The most obvious and always used reason is that there maybe there is terrorist plot here in our country. Even though it is a country's prerogative to advise its citizens, ti is sometimes an offense to the country being imposed upon the travel advisory. We know that we have our oen share of 'terrorists' in our own backyard but things are being lately peaceful. What's your take on this lastest travel advisory?

Most people who are always saying that Philippines is not safe for travelers, do not even know what they are talking about and they don't know anything about Philippines. They never had been to the Philippines and have no idea of the truth. It is true that there terrorist in the Philippines but not only here, in almost everywhere in the world now. Why only Philippines in travel advisory? If it is already your time, wherever you will go, that's your end.

In my home country we have advise offered on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website. The USA and Australia both have a similar sort of website. I booked a flight to Colombia and my sister looked at the travel advise for that country. I read it and parts of it were shocking. I traveled to Cartagena De Indias which is considered totally safe. I also went to Santa Marta which had some dangers reported. I felt safe there but stayed in after dark just in case. I have always wanted to go island hopping and snorkeling in the Philippines. I know that is safe in most areas there. The travel advisory is being too cautious and terrorists are in just in some of the places. Life is peaceful in the Philippines at the moment so it is annoying for tourism concerns there I imagine. I traveled to the USA two months after that very upsetting 9/11 event. I wouldn't go to Pakistan or Afghanistan right now because those two countries are dangerous at the moment.

This is really alarming and sad when other countries would have this posted as an advisory to their places. But we don't need to be worry that much...there are more countries far more dangerous than ours..yet the tourism still exists and foreigners loves adventures. There's still a lot of hotel reservations...meaning tourists are coming to prove the warning and advisory and go back to their country unharmed and unscratched and say "i will go back to the Philippines again"

I hope that the tourism still thrives even we are in this situation. It would be a shame to lose some foreigner who really want to see our country despite the advisory. I know that foreigners should adhere to what their government says but I think it still should be their decision if they want to go to or again to our country.

Hello Jeane, THe question is; "when the hell are we planning to get rid of our rebels"? Our very own military have a hard time triggering down the rebels; MILF,MNLF, ABUsayaff and the NPA. so, there's no doubt, possible terrorist attacks can occur. like what happened in the MAkati BUS bombing, when we were focus on the Car jacking problem, the terrorist took their chance and blew up a bus that killed innocent lives. but before that there was already a travel advisory into it. so i think it's their right to warn the citizens of their country. but we also should be alarmed and be vigilant. we haven't gotten rid of poverty so chances of terrorism in the Philippines remains HIGH still.

I think you have a point in saying that we never really get have progress in terms of rebels and internal peace in our country. Negotiations are always like a light bulb switch - on and off and so forth. We really never address the topic and made no serious advances. On top of that, we have to worry about foreign terrorist that can sneak into our country. It's bad enough that our country is so easy to access comapred to others.

I think Mindanao is a never-changing subject of travel advisories. But people still come here. In fact, in Davao City, we have quite a large contingent of Asian and Caucasian retirees who have settled down here. Many have taken Filipina wives. This is not to mention Filipinos who have obtained foreign citizenship but who have decided to return and invest in Mindanao. Travel advisories? For the adventurous, they add a sense of excitement to travel and tourism.
