I have a great interest in computer and aircrafts, especially military aircrafts. I am planning to do computer engineering and be involved in the designing of military aircrafts (aircraft's computer). I need to know whether the US Air Force needs computer engineers and if yes, will a computer engineer be wearing uniform and do they have military ranks ?

Modern aircrafts use computers for control. Military aircrafts use computers not only for navigation but also for accuracy in combat. Computer engineers are definitely needed for aircrafts manufacture, but it cannot be said they are the main persons in designing the aircrafts military or others. At best they are the essential auxiliary services. They can be useful in designing the right type of computer hardware and software as per the stipulated needs for the aircrafts.

the operation of an aircraft is not limited to design. Apart from mechanical designing a computer engineer help by designing and implementing the computer systems used in the aircraft for navigation and communication etc and the computer systems are used to monitor the various electronic controls used in the aircraft. The role of computers is much severe in big commercial aircrafts manufactured by boeing and airbus etc.
