is mkv taking over avi?

the file format for video mkv matroska, is quickly taking over avi

In fact I like avi much more because I have a software to convert it and therefore I can watch the videos from my mobile phone. But it seems that mkv format becomes much more popular than before. So I have download another software to deal with it. I love China

but mkv is a much more compressed format and saves up on disk space as compared to avi and nowadays all the dvd players that are being released have mkv codec in them,i think avi will soon become a thing of the past, I love India
