Safe drinking water and sanitation are basic to human survival, dignity, and productivity. Lack of these fundamentals is one of the main underlying causes of malnutrition, disease and death in children according to UNICEF's, Invest in Children. As a citizen of your country what steps are you going to initiate to address the situation if given the chance to be a UN representative?

"As a citizen of your country what steps are you going to initiate to address the situation if given the chance to be a UN representative?" I would not address the situation through the U.N. As far as I (and our constitution) is concerned, our clean water is the responsibility of our local and state governments with some oversight by our federal government. My water is none of the U.N.'s business.

Yes true enough in other parts of the world where basic human services are really enforced but in other countries where water should be free their value now is measured in liters or containers. What I have observed is that citizens are forming groups and go directly to U.N. without the proper channels. It seems people are working their way to avail safe drinking water instead of their governments.
