When I was a kid during the summer we used to walk to the school library a couple days out of the week. The school allowed the library to remain open for the first six weeks. It was a very hot walk and when we got there the library just seemed sooo cold with that air conditioner running full time. Thats what I remember most, the cool library. Now as an adult I always take my kids to the cool library in the summer. I also have fun memories of getting squirted with the water hose and going roller skating. Anyone else have summer memories?

We used to go to TN between three and four weeks in the summer. My mom would take my sister and I and my dad would come the last week we were there. We would always go to Fan Fair I am sure they call it something else now. I haven't been for years myself (My family and I go to WY instead) We also always went to Dollywood. I generally found these events boring. We would go to a lot of museums nothing ever changed year after year so it seemed. On the 4th of July there was a lot of fireworks and food. It too never changed year after year. We had what was called a picnic it was really a barbecue the third week of July where my father worked. It was boring. I did the summer reading program at the library and they were the fairs, street festivals, 4-H, vacation Bible school and when I got older my youth group always took on some type of summer project. I spent a lot of summer days floating around in our pool reading. and when I wasn't doing that or off with my friends I was usually out on the trail riding. When I was seven until about nine maybe we had a slip and slide, it threw water out of three different spots and I remember getting covered in mud and grass and not really having much fun with it. We would play in a tent in our yard, of coarse chase lighting bugs. Fishing, I hated, camping at the hunting cabins just because now that was fun. I don't remember playing with a hose or doing much roller skating though a hose does sound fun. What my favorite thing about summer was. It was summer and that meant I didn't have to go to school.

I agree with the favorite part being no school! And I forgot about the fireflies! Those were great! We had slippery slides too. When we were older teenagers we lined up the slippery slides and laid out in the sun on them, workn on our tan.

oh I love libraries too and like you I had fond memories of it, I remember when I was in grade school, the librarian was also my kindergarten teacher before she was transferred to that position and she was also my baptismal godmother and her name was Mrs.Reyes, during high school, the library was the coldest place in the school so we hang around there cause it 's so hot in my country, we were allowed to play chess and borrow a set just like any other book but no bringing it out, no betting and no cheering, I remember the librarian had a bell that she would ring when it was getting too noisy and everything would be quiet in an instant, till it gets noisier and noisier again so she would ring the bell again.

Oh, someone like me! I just loved my librarian. She was always nice to me because she remembered my sisters there before me. Thanks for sharing your story. People often tell about their favorite teacher but I never heard anyone else having a favorite librarian like me!

I remember spending summers at my granny's place and climbing trees, plucking guava's and eating them there only, we sued spend whole afternoons on trees or playing hide and seek. We also used to go for morning walks getting up at 4 a.m. and coming back by 8 a.m. and then again falling off asleep till ten so our elders used to scold us that whats the use of morning walk if you all are going to end up sleeping three hours again. But it was so much fun the walks and the games. and mostly lights used to go out in the late evenings due to power cuts so we sued to again play with friends just before going off to sleep and then sleep on the roof tops together, watching stars and telling ghost stories to scare the little ones and then everyone used to fight to not to sleep on the corner side only the oldest and bravest used to dare sleep on the corners. it was a huge pajama parties and we were all in all sixteen of us , with neighbor hood kids included. it was so much fun none of the elders knew who was sleeping where we used to just inform them and they were also so relaxed. It used to be a grand picnic for whole month. I miss those carefree days.

Besides the ice cream truck, and playing in the sprinkler, I remember playing on a blanket under the tree in my friend's front yard. I also would usually spend a week with my grandparents on a farm. We did not have a/c, and we would sit in the yard after dark at my home, even taking the black and white television outside to watch. At grandmas we played card games and dominos on the big porch. Summer was a great time for the family to go to the drive in movies as well.

Wow, those are good summer memories. And you let kids experience the joy of being in library in summer. I still remember my summer memories when I was a kid. Every summer we usually went to my grandmother's house in the province and it was a very great place. Since it's a province, of course it's not like a city and it's a very peaceful place especially at night. The only thins you'll hear are crickets. Me and my childhood playmates at that place would climb trees everyday and eat fruits at the top of the trees. We just always played. I miss my childhood summer.
