Have you ever bought anything from TV?

I know the TV is such a simple way to buy things right now! From the many advertisements you see posted on TV to the actual infomercials that try to sell you stuff. Some of them do look a bit sketchy, but there are some that you are so tempted buy. Especially the ones where they have demonstrations that make it look so enticing. And it's probably not even that quality, but they probably set it up so it looks like something's actually working pretty well there! I actually watched this show about the psychology behind infomercials and the tactics that these people use to make you buy them. It was pretty interesting actually! It was like a four-step plan that would try to make you buy. They'd point out something wrong, they offer the produce, and then sell. Or something along those lines. Well, I'd just like to know. Have you every bought anything from TV? If so, how was the product?

I once bought "Marvin's Magic Drawing Board" that was on tv in the 90's. It was really disappointing because it definitely did not work as well as they showed it on tv. Recently, my mom was watching some home shopping channel and she saw a set of pots and pans that she really liked. They were made by that chef Gordan Ramsay from the tv show Hell's Kitchen. She ended up ordering them and when they got to our house they were really nice. I think it just depends on the product you want to buy. A lot of times the products in infomercials aren't really that great. Unless it's a Snuggie, because mine works just fine. But a lot of the other things don't work the same as in the informercials. You just have to be smart and careful when you buy stuff through the tv

I totally remember Marvin's Magic Drawing Board! I used to see that all the time on TV. I definitely wanted to buy it, but I didn't! And I apparently made a good decision. Nowadays, there's so many art supply things like that on TV. Like the Blendy Pens or that other one where you color and it turns into different shapes and colors. Or that other one. Oh wow, there really are so many! Gordon Ramsay's products actually seem quite reliable. After all, he is a world-renowned chef known for his attention to detail and his strive for perfection. I'd imagine that the pots and pans you received were well worth the money! I actually watched his new show Master Chef, and it's a pretty good show I might add. Yes, it really does depend on the product. Some products can be defective and overall just a bad buy, while some are good buys that you can use daily and promise to do what they're supposed to do. I think I'm going to go out and buy a Snuggie, just not from TV. I've heard that they're pretty excellent tools, even though you look somewhat ridiculous wearing them. Especially the Snuggie commercials are insane! They're just so stupid and hilarious. I think they do it on purpose to attract more buyers. I mean, who would actually wear their Snuggie out in public? I definitely wouldn't! Especially to my child's soccer game! And they look so happy and excited while wearing it!

I never really thought about it but you're right, there were so many art supplies. I'm not sure how any of the others worked because I was smart enough to stay away. Although there was one called Rainbow Art. I got it for my birthday one year and it actually worked pretty well. Even though there are some products that actually work, it's too much of a risk to try them out. I don't want to end up with something that doesn't even work. But I guess with the Internet nowadays I could just go online and ask around.

That's so true. Usually when I want to buy a product I see on TV or something that was even feature on TV, I turn to the internet. It's a great place to see all these reviews on different products.

My father-in-law since he had retired would always watch those products being sold in TV while we are all at work. We have warned him not to be enticed with them. However, being stubborn and have money of his own, he ordered and bought a bull worker from the tv. He was instructed through the phone on where he should send the money, after the item was received. It was an exercise tool for the tummy , to trim it. So far, it was working. But after sometime, my father-in-law got tired of it because his tummy is still so big, despite using it. Now, nobody's using it and it's just there at the stock room.

That's true. We told him why buy a bull worker to help you flatten your stomach , when you can very well just move around a lot and do things around the house. But all that fell into his dear ears. He hardly want to move around and would just lie down in bed watching TV. Hence, instead that his maintenance medicine for his High blood among many others would decrease, it increased as of the latest medical check-up. A pill for the lowering of blood sugar was added.

Oh my goodness that's a funny story! I feel like that should be with me also. Someone should keep me away from the TV or else I'll probably end up buying something. I think my mom actually has one of those bull worker thingies. And yes, it really didn't work. It's so funny how people are always trying to create something so you don't have to exercise. I mean, if you really wanted to lose the weight and be thinner, then just go outside and do something!

No but my nan and auntie have bought quite a few things of the telly. My nan always seems to be watching the shopping channels her favourite is QVC and it comes up with all different kinds of things you don't really need. The reason i don't really buy anything from the telly is because i find those shopping channels really boring i don't want hours of people talking about things i don't want.

Haha, that's pretty funny because my aunt actually does the same thing. I don't know why, but I actually like watching the Shopping Channel, such as QVC and the like. It's just soothing to me! That probably sounds weird or whatever, but it's true in my case. I watch it occasionally, but I will never ever buy a product from there. It just doesn't seem all that reliable, and I can probably find something that's cheaper or of better quality on a quick visit to Wal-Mart or Target. They usually carry similar things to the ones they sell on QVC. My aunt actually just recently bought something completely and totally useless from QVC. Well, it may not be useless in her case, but it seemed pretty useless in my eyes! It was this purple case carrying thingamajigger that you stick inside your purse. It supposedly organizes things so you can take it out with ease. You can put your cellphone, wallet, and many other small accessory things inside there. She does take a whole lot of time trying to find her cellphone when it starts ringing, but I really don't think it's all too necessary. And it cost like $20 for 2. Yeah, they make you pay for 2. But they claim it as "2 for the price of 1". Not falling for that one!

I haven't tried purchasing from TV but I want to try sometime. There was this Miracle Trio health supplements that I have seen once but I wasn't able to get the telephone number to call. Maybe I will just go to its dealer and inquire from them and maybe I can get a discount from them.

Haha same with me! I usually go to a dealer, especially with those supplements. My friends are actually dealers of those things, because it provides them with extra cash every now and then. They've tried to get me to buy it, but I don't think I really need it.

I admit, I love watching home shopping networks. I like hearing the spiels. It always amuses me to hear endorsers say, "but wait, there's more!!!" I haven't really called to order but I wanted to several times. I just stop myself and think twice then decided against buying. Most of the things shown on TV are available in local stores anyway. I have bought stuff that are "as seen on TV" and some I found worth the money others just became clutter in the kitchen. I didn't like the over the stove top grill. But I did like the knife sets that I bought "as seen on TV" at a local handyman store.

I totally get what you mean! Something about those infomercials is so enticing. I always want to hear the latest gizmo and the newest gadget! And sometimes, the ideas are pretty good. But they're usually luxuries, not necessities, which is why I don't usually buy from them. Most of them are just things that help your day go easier in the slightest way possible. Not my kinda thing. And yes, TV payments are usually so complicated, and even if they say it's not available in stores, it probably is!

Yes, I've bought something off TV, I bought this stupid cooker thing lol. I don't know what I was thinking about that night at 4AM, it was $20.00 in shipping and the item broke within a month. Things that say "Hurry up! Order now! This product will NEVER be available in stores!" is a total lie, at my local CVS there is a section called "AS SEEN ON TV" and it's everything from hair removers to grills. I wouldn't recommend buying anything from phone.

Gurl, I totally feel you! I think I know what you're talking about. I watched this show once about the psychology behind infomercials. And one of the things they were talking about was the "Hurry! This offer ends soon" scheme. They were doing this test to see if that tactic actually lived up. They saw an infomercial where it said that the deal only lasts for an hour. These people tried calling the next day and the offer was still the same. They then asked if it really made a difference if they called now or back then when they claimed the offer was valid. They operating lady actually said that it honestly didn't! Funny thing! And I've seen those "As Seen On TV" sections at all my local steers. They're pretty fun to look at, but I usually try to steer away from buying these defective products.

Yeah my friend uses the smooth away hair remover, she says it works great, and at CVS here it's only $5 compared to $10 plus $5.95 shipping.. I don't use any as seen on tv products.

I can never bring myself to buy anything off tv. I'm not sure if it's because I'm worried about security of paying over the phone or the stereotype that everything on tv is poorly made. My mom and my grandma, however, buy stuff on tv ALL the time.

Me neither. Well, I think I've bought one thing off of TV, and after, I was just like: "I'm not doing this TV thing anymore!" It's really everything. Everyone says that things made on TV are poorly made and will break really fast, and my first purchase totally confirmed that. I think it was called the Magic Bullet? It's supposed to be this thing that crushes your food really fast in this small container. And it's totes perfect for crushing onions, vegetables, fruit, and even making smoothies! (saracasm) Yeah, it really totally wasn't good at all. The quality of the cuts were just not up to par, and I hated the product overall. And ewww don't even get me started on those jank smoothies. Those were just disgusting little creations. The security around paying for your item bothers me too. Like, you're basically just telling your information to this person over the phone. Let's just hope we called the right number, because if we didn't, someone could just be stealing our information.
