This sounds like a very good read. I very much enjoy thrillers, mysteries, and detective novels. I'm familiar with some aspects of this case. and I think i might give it a try. Thanks for the nice review.

I read it last year in French, but I did not knew when I bought it that it was based on the Black Dahlia by James Ellroy, a book that I have not still read, and I believe I missed a lot of things in the first part of the Red Dahlia. It is written with a frantic rhythm that did not permit me to sleep. I think that every trick is in this book : turnarounds, revelations, etc. The detective Travis is attractive and the killer in the second part scaring. It is also for me one of the best detective books I have read.
