what is traffic exchange and how does it benefit me on a ptc site?

Recently I have started to try my luck at a bunch of ptc sites but there is one thing that confuses me. The link traffic exchange says you don't get any monetary gain from it and I wonder if that is the case why do it at all. Basically I want to know how it benefits me to do what that link wants me to. Also what is traffic exchange?

Traffic exchange sites allow you to promote the other sites whwere you are a member and maybe get referrals that way. Besides that, there are some sites where you earn a small amount of money for surfing that sites that also give you credits to promote. THe site I like best is EasyHits4U. It is legit, has been online for years and you can also earn some money there. There are other nice sites. I trade sites as a way of getting referrals.
