Eversince I was an adolescent, I have dreamed of establishing my own business. As I always do my best to save money to raised up an amount to serve as my initial capital. Aside from that, I always consult my parents on how will be able to start it. They always telling me that in due time, we will help you and guide you. Just focus first on your career and job opportunities. And according to them, as soon as I reached the level of maturity, they will help me thoroughly in establishing the business that I am dreaming of. As time goes by, I always bear that in my mind. That I need to focus. And wait until I reached the level of maturity that they have told me. But now, that I already reached the level of maturity, still they are not helping me. Not even get a single piece of support. Well, I can say, my sister do support me but, it will be more powerful if my mom will support me too. Now, I am thinking, is it still right to continue this dream? Am I dreaming under a tree without any light and a future? I guess, I should stop this dream anymore or else it might turn up into a nightmare.

Why don't you start in a small business. By then you will become more familiar on how businesses are being handled. I guess with small business, investment will also be small. With that, I do not think you will still need to depend on your parents. Have you taken business courses? If not, try searching on how to start a small business, I'm sure there are a lot of tips for you. Also try searching the successful stories of businessmen, you can relate some of it. You can do it! As long as you believe in yourself! Have faith!

I think they are waiting for you to start the move. Start it up on your own if you are confident already in owning and managing a business. Precious time is wasted day after day when you are not yet starting it. Continue and live your dream! If you really want to own a business go and take a shot and take a risk. It is better to risk it out than never trying to fulfill that dream of yours!

A real dream doesn't require the support of others nor their acceptance. It requires your own passion and your own hard work. I'm amazed at the number of businesses that are opening daily here in the US even though we're in trying times. The media would never admit to that, so I subscribe to Entrepreneur Magazine to see how many people are being successful in starting and running businesses, even though the economy is not good.

It's understandable if you want your parents to back you up, but if they don't then why not just start your business and prove to them that it will work? Maybe once they see that the ball is rolling somewhere they'll realize that you really do want this. But never give up on a dream that you've had for so long! Give up now and you'll kick yourself in the future.

Hi Airasheila, After reading your post i can tell that we grew up on almost the same culture where approval of family members specially the parents are so extremely important. But you should never give up on that dream. Try to seek advice from professional entrepreneurs who have the same business as you would like to put up yourself, maybe they can suggest a way for you to start, it may not exactly be the same business as what you have in mind but something that is also inline with that. Yeah it is so frustrating when you can't get approval from those people whom you expect to support you but it doesn't mean you need to give up now. Try to weigh things if this business is marketable during this time, what will be the cost with regards to time, energy and money, do you have the right business mindset etc... I am pretty sure you will make it if you put your heart and mind in it even without the approval of you mom.

a business does not need to have a huge capital to start with. and if you need capital for business, why don't you go out and get it for yourself. work. never rely on other people to provide you the things you need. it is you alone who dictates your future. go out and earn your capital. work. oh and once again... work.

@airasheila: Perhaps you have been too matured to wait any longer. Where there is a will, there is a way. No offense, but why on earth you must rely on your parents of starting your own business? If you are already reached your level of maturity and have a job, I believe that any bank will give you a loan, provided that you have your salary slip (and of course guarantors). You can always take a loan and start your dream business. Indeed there are risk, but the profit surely be worth it as well. If you are not ready to take any risk by taking loans, please don't do it. You need a really high commitment to proceed. I believe a dream should not only be a dream. Make it a reality, and not just another daydream that you hope to get every now and then. I won't stop you if you wanted to quit - the choice is purely yours - but you will waste what you have planned all the way up to this point.

I think you shouldn't lost your dream and try that it become reality. However you'll need to have capital in order to build your own business. Additionally, as entrepeneur, you have to know the skills needed for such an enterprise. If you are determinated to work hard and with courage and intelligence then you are ready to have your own business. I'll wish you good luck with your dream.

You need support on terms of advice from your parents or financial support? I know that sometimes we feel like we need to know what our family thinks about a certain endeavor, but if you keep waiting for that to happen and you don't try, you'll never do it. You need to focus on what you want. Don't have the money? Raise it by working, ask for any financial support for small bussiness owners, do your research, you may find that if you have a good, well detailed bussiness plan, you can get the help you need, even if it doesn't come from your parents. If you want to do this, you can, just start shaping your dream into a reality now. Good luck with that bussiness!
