Paypal Debt

Recently, I got chargebacked for a really large sum of money. I could not get any seller protection because these were virtual items (Gift card codes) and Paypal could not "give" me my money because there was no proof that I had sent the other person the code or not (even though I did send them the code, he scammed me). I am currently in a $156.40 debt and I do not know what to do in this situation. I have called paypal 4 times and e-mailed them 2 times and received the answer, "That's how life is, you can't do anything about it." I was furious with their answer, and I don't know what to do. If you were in this situation, how would you deal with it?

You are a buyer, you should can make a dispute against them. Is it a monthly subscription or what? My questions is, how it started at the first time?

No, I am the seller. Unfortunately, Paypal gives buyers more "respect" and don't help sellers out a lot. I have noticed a lot of harassment sellers have received from buyers, but Paypal does not do a lot to help the sellers.

Well, when I contacted Paypal, they said I have to follow the seller protection policy so that I can be protected when things like this happen, but at the end of the call, the representative also said that it is not guaranteed that I will be protected even if I follow the policy. I really don't know if I should trust these guys when I sell my product.

Before doing anything, read the FAQ, TOS or everything that will help you to deal with the problems in the future. You are a seller, so you have to minimize the thing that can make someone to open a dispute against you. GOOD LUCK!!

As far as I understand you have consumer rights, this includes how you are spoken to when on the phone to companies. If you do not feel the person you are dealing with is knowledgeable enough or just being down right rude. Ask to speak to their superior. I understand that it is a lot of money but there might be a legal loop hole you have been trapped in and nothing ether paypal nor yourself can do. I would also check the website you purchase the gift card codes from to see if there is anything at that end that may help.

I was not the buyer, but I was the seller. I have spoken with 4 different people on the phone and they have all tried nothing to help and said that I could not do anything about the situation but to pay back "their" money. Paypal has given me a lot of frustration and I am angry with them because they have led an innocent seller into a big debt that is really hard to pay off!

What, that is what they said to you, "that is how life is". I would definitely curse them out with my response mail though. Well, anyway, once they got the collection agency on you, and once they got the court order on you, you may have to fork it over or pay it over time though. Good luck!

Actually, Paypal cannot force me to pay the amount. I will just have the negative balance. I will pay it over time, but will be doing so furiously. I am seriously upset because of this debt and that I will not be getting the money I deserve, back into my pockets.

I am sorry to hear of the loss for you. I do know a young lady who sells on Ebay and had a similar issue. By what she explained to me, not only did not get her money but the designer expensive shirt was not returned either. It is sad that they are not protecting sellers and at this rate will they still continue to be in business if each seller has issues? I wonder how long it has been as it is a holiday long weekend in the US and therefore, wondered if perhaps tomorrow or the next day you may get better assistance. If it were me, I would pester to no end and though they may not refund, I surely would not give up until they at least gave me a sound reasoning. I am truly sorry for your loss and do hope you can get it back.

The last caller I had, was no help. He had just blamed everything on me and said that it was my responsibility on being scammed, which makes absolutely no sense. I will try making more calls and pestering them, but I don't think it will work out and I will just have to spend another year making up for this heavy loss on my paypal account. Thanks for the support.
