The emergence of a new Filipino eating lifestyle..l

Perhaps you've noticed it, too, a long time ago, but here I am, finally accepting that the Filipino family eating lifestyle had definitely taken on a new scenario, whether for the good, well, that will be determined in the coming years... What I am talking about is the mushrooming of many an eating places in the metropolis. You stop at a fuel station for gasoline or diesel, then you are immediately ushered in to Treats, Reyes Barbecue, Tutti Frutti, the Sicilian, or Wicked Kitchen... and that is not counting on the usual Chowking or Jollibee or MacDonald's. The new Mang Inasal which capitalizes on unlimited rice and distinct Filipino grilled chicken taste had become an option for take home dinner, not just a fine dining experience. And Goldilocks still lurks in many main streets that makes it easier for people to get their home meal instantly. As a result, the family kitchen is not as busy anymore, nor the family dining table occupied... The change is exciting, especially so if you get to see other families as crazy as thou art, bringing out laptops and PSPs, availing of the wifi and the cleanliness of the restaurants... Banapple and Chocolate Kiss are highly recommended, not just for the food but also for the ambiance.

I am in the UK and never heard of most of this delicious sounding Filipino foods. I am particularly excited about the Chocolate Kiss and I do hope that it is something that lingers on the lips and you can savour it long into the night. mmmmm Oh, now I realise that it's the name of a restaurant and not an actual food. What a shame. :(

That's all right, the taste of the food offered, as the name of the restaurant connotes, does linger in the buds...

the same thing happens here in the Visayas not only in Manila. i guess this is really the trend now in the Philippines. but still, if we have nothing to spend for we only resort to even sunny side up even at night dining.

i love eggs better with garlic, onions and tomatoes but sunny side up is for the quick relief of hunger. with the grill, you mean for a business? yes but that still needs a lot of money and time. no time for business yet, eileen.

The barbecue woman from whom I order sticks for parties told me that she borrowed 3 kilos from the market initially, and that gave her a house, a vehicle and college education for her four children. Start small, it will grow eventually.

neil, I scramble the eggs and saute it with garlic, onion and tomatoes. Sometimes, I use cheese or tuna for a change.

I love Tutti Frutti!Anyway, yes, the eating style of Filipinos has really change and we are slowly adopting the western culture style in eating. Pasta, frozen yogurt, short meals, fast foods are among western tradition in easting that we are having now. In Davao City, there's a cooler outlet called Crepelato that I am indulging, it is slightly different from Tutti Frutti because the Ice cream is Italian and it is serve A la monde. The crepe is great and my favourite flavours are mango float, banana split and blueberry, so yummy!

It sounds like your country is getting to have the choices for food that we have had in the US for awhile. If most of these places are fast food, you must be careful, because a lot of fast food has higher calories, fat and sodium than food cooked at home. That is probably why we are so obese as a country.

For me I still prefer the old fashion way. Me and my wife are still cooking every weekend (when I have no work). With this, we are having quality time. Although once in a while we go out and eat outside (together with our baby).

Correct! There is no better atmosphere for a baby but the home. It will create stability. When the baby is school age, that is the time to try new places.

We Filipinos really love to eat! We say we have money problems but still fast foods and restaurants are always occupied. Maybe because we prioritize our stomachs more than anything else. That's why I'm not surprised that restaurants, fast foods, quick and on-the-go food delis are ballooning in the Philippines especially in the metro. But eating out really depends on the situation. As for me, I live alone in the city and I have no choice but to eat out most of the time. It's budget-friendly than if I cook for myself and the food just end up rotten. But I prefer food cooked at home. If I raise my own family I'll make sure we eat frequently at our home and maybe treat my family in a restaurant every once in a while. Nice topic. :)

You are very practical and wise. I also like home cooked meals. My children grew up with soup based viands such as bulalo, tinola, sinigang, and nilaga. That is why my daughters, as I am, are so huge and fleshy. Start compiling your recipes mary, when you have your own family, cooking can become a daily worry.

Very true, in our house alone it's very seldom that we eat around the table, I usually eat in the sofa facing the TV.

Its seems very strange to me. Because i am from India, here we will also have some eating style. Coming my local place, Hyderabad Biryani is so famous one. It is made up of chicken and mutton. It is very very tasty food.

We have restaurants here, believe it or not, that serve Indian food, either ala carte or fine dining. I will try one soon.

And I believe my family is getting in to this new eating lifestyle as more often than before, we just order meals for the day because of the lack (or is it laziness and not wanting to be disturbed with computer work)time. I don't think it is right for the family but I must say, we are contributing to the economy by patronizing our own products and businesses!

We patronize Mang Inasal over and above the others. And we abuse the rice. I am so fat now!

Monster Pizza is also to die for here. And my family is not spared by the fever of adding toppings to our hearts' content. Sigh! But hey,. it's the perfect food.
