I am a mother of a four year old little girl. And due to my busy routines everyday I just leave my child watching cartoons so she will not bother me while I do my domestic errands. Although I keep watch of what kind of cartoons she is watching, I couldn't help but heard one of the cartoon characters saying "free gift" and "from whence it came". I graduated AB English and I know I am not perfect in anything but I think these are redundancies that our children are hearing these from their favorite cartoons. Because I think we shouldn't say "free gift' because a gift is always given for free. And "whence" means from where. So I think it is just enough to say "...whence it came". I know we can't help these things. But I am more watchful now than ever before.

Shame on how cartoon writers today make it so they have to utilize language to draw attention and or stoop to such low levels. It is almost as if they think that being perfect in speaking will not allow for interest in the programs. I understand how hard it is to keep a watchful eye, but you are right it is important to be more watchful and or correct the children as they do learn from anything they hear, so not a bad idea to continue to watch out for the programs they view.
