The cycle of obesity

I have struggled with a heavier body type all my life. I don't eat much, but I do eat really slow. People misjudge you if you are heavy. They think that you eat all the time when not everyone does. Sometimes there are underlying health issues. I was diagnosed with gastroparesis which is slow stomach emptying. I have to take medicine four times a day to move the food through my body. If I don't take the medicine, I get very sick and end up in the emergency room. Many people assume that if you are heavy it is because you do not exercise. Sometimes you can not exercise because you are heavy, so you do what you can. I have been going to the YMCA and going in the pool. It angers me when others start picking on you about weight. I wore a size eight in high school but I was also starving myself. I was skipping breakfast and lunch every day and it went unnoticed until I passed out and fell down the steps. I wanted to look like the other girls, but I couldn't. I was hiding diet gum in my dresser and taking a pill called chromium picolinate. I may have been thinner back then but I definitely was not healthy. In fact, some of the problems I have today with my health may be due to abusing my body as a teenager.

Obese - Obese is not beautiful
So sorry to hear that! If obesity is due to underlying issues it is really quite sad. Well I don't think taking diet pills and skipping meals would help. As for me the best solution is for you to maintain healthy eating. Avoid fatty and sugary food but rather take moderate amount of fibrous root crops for your daily carb and them feast on more raw veggies and fruits and lots of water. Have a daily workout activity. Don't stop doing that for it will help your slow emptying stomach to move more. Well my niece problem is another thing. She really eats a lot so that she grows fat and obese and no longer the pretty girl she used to be. I wish she would just listen to me.

Yes, you are right. There are some people who are obese in spite of limited intake of food. I think these people have a genetic as well as familial tendency towards obesity. But as obesity is now treated as a disease, you must do some physical exercise. Walking is a very good exercise. You may easily try it. You have mentioned that you are taking medicines for some gastric problem. I do not know what those medicines are. But have you ever asked your doctor that whether your obesity is due to the side effects of those medicines? If not yet asked, then I would request you to ask it immediately. In the mean time, start walking everyday for at least half an hour.

I was thin many years ago, and even when thin, I thought I was fat because of what the scale says. I have recently started back to the Y, and started with water myself because it lets you move with less pain. I have also started with some resistance/weight training, and feel better when I do it. I saw pictures of myself at the lake, though, and I feel so discouraged. People who are overweight KNOW they are overweight. They do not need people to judge them. I feel like some of why I do not lose weight easily now is because I did some dumb things to lose weight in my twenties. Hang in there, and do what you can to get healthy.

Me too having a problem with my weight. It has been up and down these 10 years since I was ill with depression. The meds I took is the contributor to my weight. I think since I need to take those pills to control my mood, I will strongly do household chores and walk instead of driving. These regime will help me lose some weight if not much its least. How fat are you? Mind me. No offend.

I have struggled with my weight for most of my life, too. Last October, I decided that I had to do something about it, and have lost 57lbs since then just through a normal diet and exercise regime. None of these new "wonder diets" that allow you to lose a stone in a week or anything like that, the best thing to do is to just eat healthily all of the time, and then you wouldn't have to starve yourself. I am sorry about your health problem, however it is still perfectly possible for you to lose weight; just cut back slowly until you begin to notice a difference.

I think it is normal get some weight in this world but I never gained fat. I do exercise from the childhood and maybe this is the reason for it. I think the best solution is running. Make friends who have such habits of running in the morning. Try it I am sure you will enjoy once you become habitual to it. Focus on your goal and make a picture of yourself. I mean make someone your ideal and put the picture in your home. Then he will inspire you to do the hard work for you. I hope you like my inspirational talk, thanks and good luck to you.

Sad but true that many do judge only for what they think they see and not for the person them self. No one knows what the person is going through and or if it is simply genetics. Sadly some people in society are this way and nothing will change the ignorance. As I say to others who have been in your situation, you enjoy life and do what you are doing and not be bothered by ignorance. This is helpful Linda to share because many especially teens today are still not eating properly and think that starving to be thin is the way to go.
