21st century gadgets - replacing personal relationships

I remember how it was 20 years ago, when life was not simpler but has more quality and challenge. Me and my family would eat together and just take time to talk about pleasant and sometimes not so pleasant things. And my mind was so sharp then that I can do quick estimation of how things gonna cost.Life then was more personal, we would embrace more frequently when time permits, and I must say there's always a time for that. Nowadays , when almost everybody has a cellphone, enotebook, laptop and computer..life has been easier but..it seems there's less of personal interaction. People would just communicate through text messages and emails and thereby finding not enough reason to meet in person to discuss things. You can't look straight in the eyes and feel emotions. You just look at an opaque screen and just decipher emotions through typed words. Are you enjoying this age where we are surrounded by high-tech gadgets? Do you think we should do something so that relationships can be more personal rather than becoming digital?

Gadgets are meant to improve performance, to get a task done quicker and easier, so that there is more time for leisure. While there are downsides to any good thing, I think at present we are still at the lower end of an upward moving technology curve. A lot more needs to be done- like finding cures for many sickness, diseases, disabilities and so on, as well as improve and make all machines with efficiency as close to unity (100 percent) as is possible so that all the energy is consumed results into work done without losses. I am in my fifties and I wish that a number of inventions were available to me when I was a young boy - probably I would have been able to gain far more knowledge that I have managed to until now- and now with a possible 3 to 4 decades of life left, I feel that there is not enough time for me to be able to garner all the knowledge, to satisfy my curiosity about everything in this vast cosmos of ours. I think these gadgets have also in a way managed to bring people closer - I remember, how even as a boy, it was a great feat speaking with someone even 200 kilometers away-this had to be done by booking a telephone trunk call and then after a few minutes or hours (depending upon the distance and the connectivity) one could speak with the other person through an operator. Today one speak with practically anyone else one earth, provided one has the co-ordinates of the person that one wishes to get in touch with. The internet has made the world a smaller place - Even a quarter of a century ago, could you imagine someone from India (yours truly) discussing the advantages and disadvantages of technology as we are doing through this discussion? Though we may never meet, I do have a small idea about the concerns that you have about gadgets as I am sure that you must have understood from my response that I feel that technology is not making a rapid enough progress that a person like me would want it to. I am most certainly enjoying myself using technology and I wish I could use it more and more once more improvements come in. As far as personal relationships are concerned, it all depends upon the involved individuals - the world is becoming very competitive as well as the desire to improve one's lot is growing in all of us humans - this requires money, and many of us are involved in trying to earn that extra buck so that we could buy something to make our lives and those of the ones we love and care for easier - this results in many of us not having enough time to interact with our near and dear ones directly, so we use the gadgets to communicate with one another - chats' emails' messages, SMS, MMS and the entire gamut. We have to strike a balance between our money gathering priorities and the need to bond with those that we love or we may lose them, or the love, maybe forever. As I said, it all depends upon the individual. No offense intended.

What to say... I think the most important is from our heart and soul. Digital and technology devices can make your life much more comfortable, ofcourse so you can think and make your life not depending on these devices. For ex, although I'm married and not stay with my parents, I usually phone them, even chat with them online. Weekend or some free time, I took my child to come back home, enjoy food cooked by me or my mother. Or sometimes, we can have a small party/picnic... So we are still have communications and spend the attention to each other, everything will be okay even technology develops fasterly.
