exploitation of nurses

Are you a fresh graduate of Bachelor of science in nursing? got your license as an RN, then no hospital hires you? frustrating isn't it? in my experience, it took me three years before i started working as a volunteer nurse. yes, volunteer nurse because no job is open if you are applying as a staff nurse. as i was to start to work, i was super excited for finally, i will be able to practice my profession. it went okay at first. and then suddenly i became aware of some issues. there are actually hospitals who accept volunteer nurses and use them to run their institution.. how do i mean run? like they don't hire more staff nurses, instead make use of the volunteer nurses. what's the difference between a volunteer nurse and a staff nurse? SALARY. for me that's just wrong. these volunteer nurses don't get paid. at some cases, even the nurses applying to be a volunteer are the ones who will pay the hospital just to earn experience. talking about real exploitation. what saddens me the most is that, these volunteer nurses they're hiring work full time and they don't even get allowances, or even free meals, the least. sometimes, the hospitals make use of the volunteers for the work of nurse aids so they won't have to hire nurse aids. because hiring a nurse aid would mean additional expenses for the hospital. nurse aids and registered nurses have different job description. nurses didn't pass the nursing board exam and got licensed to work as a nurse aid. i wish one day, hopefully soon this problem will be solved and strict rules be implemented. it doesn't mean that since nurses need the experience that they can do this to them. we didn't earn our degree and license for nothing!

I am able to empathise with you. Trained nurses should be paid the salary they deserve and more work should be given to trained people instead of being given to volunteer nurses. I hope the situation has improved now. You are probably busy in ur work and hence have not come to mylot for 3 weeks. good day.
