Has anybody tried Google+ Want to know more before joining

I have come to know through a local newspaper that Google has launched an attack on Facebook by coming out with a social networking site called Google+. But, after searching the internet for a while I was a bit confused, because there is no website called Google+. All I could find out that it is something to do with a project where you get to invite people.
I am still confused and want somebody to help me out. If one wants to be a member how does one go about it?

i just signed up today so im as lost as you are.. i just hope it kills facebook!

It is currently in beta and you have to have an invite from someone who is already a member. Much like Gmail when it came out. My husband knows people who know people and got an invite and invited most of the people that I communicate with regularly. The one thing i like about it is the circles. You can have a person in more than one circle, but only the people in certain circles will see certain information. I do not know if it will really rival facebook, because so many people are so entrenched in facebook, but I do like some of the features that i have seen better than what facebook is currently offering.
