Stand up!

If you're sitting down while reading this discussion you might think of standing up instead! I just read an article that says most people who sit regularly are going to gain more weight even if they exercise regularly. The American Health Journal correlated the size of the waist to the amount of time spent sitting down though they could not exactly tell how much it would add to your waist. It is thus suggested to take a break from sitting down every once in awhile. So if you tend to sit down for longer period of hours. Try standing up after 30-50 minutes and then go back again. No wonder my butt and thighs are getting bigger. Oh and my tummy too.

In our office, we are always seated in front of our laptops. But thanks to my urinating every now and then , because i get to stand up and walk a long way just to go to the comfort room. However, my butt is still big and my "bilbil" too. I am now frantic, of doing vigorous exercise and crunches every other day, just to flatten it a bit.

Hello D! Good news! There's a solution for toning it down and it's called fitflop, a sandal that can help us tone down our things and butts. It's specially designed to give us that gym like exercise effect whenever we walk using it. So i'm getting one. Why don't you buy one too and let's show our slimmer butts to our fellow mylotters here!

That sounds very interesting. I do have to sit long hours each week day at work. So, when the weather is favorable, after I get back home from work, I go out to the park near my house and go jogging. The main purpose is to get refreshed. And, I suppose that's what keeping my weight under control too. Thank you !

Because too much sitting or sitting for long periods of time can cause blood flow problems in the area around anusl behind. The aging process causes weakening of the structure in the area which facilitates the occurrence of prolapse

That is true. I have to sit down a lot because my work is mainly done on the computer. Recently I've been having issues with my butt. I'm beginning to have hemorrhoids. Oftentimes I have a hard time defecating. I researched on the internet that this is a serious problem. I especially don't want to have that horrible dreaded occurrence of rectal prolapse. It's so disgusting and probably dangerous too like this picture http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3494/3723041308_00347ffc4a.jpg (warning this picture is graphic). Fortunately my hemorrhoids is still mild so I try to reduce my sitting to prevent such a serious condition

for me no problem. I am not fat at all. On the contrary on account of ageing I become leaner year by year. Even while working in a bank i use to get out of my seat once in 20 minutes and walk/ ur suggestion is good.

I think that's the reason why I have bootylicious butt and thighs and i don't like how my tummy looks like, seems i have a 4 month old baby inside, people always asked me if i am pregnant, worst thing is sometimes they don't ask "are you pregnant? they bluntly say, "how month old is that" while pointing at my tummy, hahaha, I seat all day in the office. 8 hrs,I spent more time sitting rather than standing.I think I shoul follow your advice.

People can be so tactless sometimes. Well let's both put our feet forward and prove to them we can lose those flab by standing up more often.

Yes i agree. But if your work requires you to be confined in just one place and you don't have any other choice, then better to stand than just sitting down.

I definitely sit on my badonkadonk too much, but I try to stand up and do things for a bit so that I am not always just sitting down or standing up. I need to keep doing this so that when I get older I can still be active.

Hello, thanks for sharing about this. A friend of mine also told me that sitting can shorten life span. I just forgot where he got this but he said that people who sit more tend to have shorter lives than those who have lesser time sitting. That's why it's important to talk a break once in a while and walk a little to have longer life. :) Have a great day. Happy mylotting. :)

Yes, i agree with you, we have to maintain some balance regarding health issues which are silently pointing and effects in our future like back pain. We do not have to sit continuously hours long, we have to give some interruptions... nice points you have mentioned..

Thanks. It's about time we should be concerned about this, especially when we are mylotting and we don't notice that we've been sitting down for hours responding to discussions! Have a nice day!

I never sit for more than a half hour if i can help it. I get up and go to the bathroom, do a chore around the house, or use the restroom. Long periods of sitting, besides adding to weight gain, also lead to poor lower body circulation and if not sitting correctly can lead to back problems.

Good for you. I work online for sometimes 7-8 hours straight but i do get a 10 minute break interval. I can't stand up during the 50 minute class so i don't have any other choice.

Haha Well, here at work my room is at the second floor. So most of the time I take the stairs. It is really tiring but I guess it serves as exercise too. I think it's the reason why I have nice buns haha.

Sitting down too much at work or home can not only make your butt spread, but it can also affect your digestive system as well. No blood flow = systems not operating to capacity.

Yeah, you are right. If you want to keep healthy and keep a good figure, just stand up often, especially after dinners. If you spend a lot of time sitting there working, watching TV,playing computers,I sincerely hope you can stand up after one hour of sitting and go out to get some fresh air and relax your eyes. Then ten minutes later go back to your workplace with clear mind. That's a good way to keep in good health.Trust me and do it.

Fortunately my lifestyle does not permit me to sit for long sessions on the pc and you are absolutely right with your observation. Besides putting on weight it is also bad for the back and the spine needs care. Some stretching exercises are recommended.

Wow, good for you. AT least you can stretch and then walk around. Just mere standing is enough i think. My job requires me to sit all the time as well and that includes weekends too.

You're right I've read about it too. You get a larger measurement around your waist if you are sitting too long hours. It's good you brought it up for discussion. Stand up every 30 min and every awaken hour will prevent health problems. Have a wonderful day!

In my line of work though, i need to sit down for 8 hours straight but i do get a 10 minute break every after 50 minutes. So i guess i can only stand after 50 minutes. Thanks.

Wow - I really didn't realise that standing up can make such a big difference to your weight! luckily with my job I have to be on my feet most of the time so it shouldn't be too much of a problem, but this is very interesting. I can understand though, how sitting too much can obstruct your blood flow and standing can help to promote drainage from the areas in which fluid may have been pooling. Maybe that's the reason why!

Don't have any idea what the explanation is. All i know is that i must stand up as often as i can because my work requires me to sit all the time.

I am so glad to know that. And it is a good thing that I don't get to sit around too much everyday because I keep myself occupied. I keep my body moving. Positively the best reason why I don't gain weight even after having a baby.

That's great to hear. I didn't gain weight after having a baby as well. I just noticed nowadays that my thighs are getting bigger and my butt too. But i still look thin though. Great that you don't have to sit down all the time.
