My Cat Prefers The Adult Brush

We bought FloJo a cat brush from Pets At Home a few weeks ago. After a few brushes she gets bored and starts playing with it..hardly what we had in mind. However, if she sees me use MY brush she lets me know that SHE wants me to use it on HER! Mmmm! Not very hygienic this is it? Therefore John will have to buy another one so we have two on the go. What's the betting she'll want us to brush her with the new one? I remember years ago buying a rather brilliant Denman brush (one of the best on the market at the time) for myself but the cats had other ideas. It is now resigned to the "Shiny Boy Drawer" whenever Mum wants to give her cats "Shiny Boy." I've lost count of how many cats that brush has brushed over the years and Mum's been through loads of brushes for her own hair. Good judge of quality aren't they? Is it the same with you? The cats prefer an adult brush? Have you any idea why? Is it the bobbles at the end they like? Flojo loves them!

Hiya Janey, If she prefers that kind of brush then why not buy one just for her herself. I have no idea why she likes that brush but as you say it´s probably the bobbles that relax her while she is being brushed. She obvioulsy knows what she likes and wants that Cat. I would give in and get her one with bobbles on and brush her coat with that and your Mom will as well I imagine.

Hiya Janey, Pretty sure that she will like it. So you tell John to get the best brush he can find for human use and then use it on the Cat. PS: I was watching "The Tudors" last night they have started up again and he is so good looking that Jonathan Rhys wow. Just thought I would tell you that bit.xxx

Hiya Janey, Hope he does not get to be like that he has such soulful eyes too. Did not know that he was from the South of Ireland with a Surname like Rhys I thought he was from Wales at first. He is a very charismatic character yes I like him a lot he played Henry very well. Told you before how I liked when he met Bess on a Highway one of my favourite scenes in the Tudors. Also my favourite was when he knew Jane Seymour probably the only time when Henry knew any peace in his life.xxx

You sound like a very good Mom to your cats! I've never tried using my hairbrush on our cats. They don't like being brushed very much. The oldest tolerates it, but that's because she's 16, her back legs aren't the greatest and she can't get away easily. I have a cat brush with bobbles on it, like a hair brush and also one that's made for heavy coats...she doesn't have a preference.

I love the older cats too. Well I just love cats period! When I had to put to sleep my baby when she was 15 it broke my heart. I still think about her almost every day and it's been 2 years now. We were together for the entire 15 years. :( So we adopted Chloe, who had just turned 15 at the time and the vet told us she only had a couple more months to live. She's 16 now and doing great. We walked into the local pet store to get bedding for my daughter's hamster and there was a local rescue there with kittens. Neither one of my kids (15 & 10) have ever been around a kitten. There was an orange one, which my son has been asking for since he could talk. And she was a female (I've never adopted a male) AND her name is the same name my kids call my Dad - Poppy! So it just looked like it was meant to be. I filled out the adoption papers without even calling my husband. I sent him a pic of Poppy, but he didn't reply. Got home & first thing he asked was "where's the kitten? Didn't you bring her home?" HA HA HA We were approved & picked her up the following week and she's been wrapping us around her little paws ever since. I was hoping Chloe would perk up and play with Poppy, but Chloe is set in her ways & isn't going to change, even for a little bundle of bouncing fur. That's ok, Chloe is still Queen here and all of us spend our days making sure that everybody gets spoiled. Might have to try your hairbrush trick! :)

i believe it.some cats- particularly the ones with thin coats-hate those wire type cat brushes.my tux boy prefers human brushes too..he gets angry if you try to brush him with the "cat" brush.

Yes, Flojo wasn't impressed with the cat wire brush at all. I've noticed it even rusts up. I mean, how ridiculous is that? A rusting brush lol. Anyway, she has her own, adult brush now. Well, our old one actually. John had to buy a different one so we don't get them mixed up!

Gamma my rooster in his pen - Gamma is now old. He has choices too
This reminds me of my pet rooster. He gets into his pen for the night and there we have spread a nice thick cloth for him to rest for the night. The other day I changed that cloth and put a new one. He refused to go there. I had to then remove that cloth and put the same dirty cloth back and pronto he jumped into the pen. Some psychology this!. Pets have their own thinking and I have yet to analyse your cat's thinking!

I don't know much about roosters but yours sounds very cute! I wonder if they can smell scent on things like cats and dogs do? Could be the scent maybe on the old rag he likes lol.

I guess your cat is probably as particular about brushes as we humans are. lol.. too funny and cute how your cat wants yours. Maybe it reminds your cat of you or something like that. Your cat probably likes the way the bristles feel. Hey wait is that not what we like too from the various brushes out in the market today. lol

John bought ME another brush today so Flojo can have our old one. I set her off purring with it earlier. So cute!

I have never kept the cats,so I have no idea what differences between the cat brush and the adult brush are.I guess the cat's action has surely to do with its natural instincts.catching mice is cat's line, perhaps the cat takes the adult brush as fictitious mouse and goes on catching mouse drill.

This the very reason why cats are brilliant! Cats just have so much character and no two are the same and some of their quirks, is why I love them

Hmmm, I just bought a little brush with small plastic bristles at the dollar store to brush my girls with. They don't seem to care much either way whether I brush them or not and I don't seem to get much fur off of them when I do. They are both short haired (the little one has VERY short sleek fur), so I don't know...perhaps I am wasting my time brushing them at all? I don't know that they really need it but they seem to enjoy it okay.

Our cat spends a lot of her time indoors so I try to brush her to reduce furballs (plus her diet has been changed) so, if I use a brush she likes then I'm hoping the furballs will reduce over time.
