Do you color your hair at home?

I color my hair at home. I've been doing this for a little over 20 years now. I've had my hair colored many times at a salon and I've never noticed a difference between coloring it at home or at the salon. I still get roots and the color lasts for the same amount of time either way. LOL I actually prefer coloring my hair at home, because I can get things accomplished around the house while I'm waiting for my color to process. Recently I tried John Frieda's new hair color. It's a foam hair color. It was very easy to mix and very easy to apply. I have to admit though, it's messier than using the traditional liquid hair color. The color result though, was way better than any other hair color I've used before. I say this because John Frieda's product actually worked with my current hair color and blended it in with the Frieda color. I've never had a hair color do that before. Usually, permanent hair color lifts some of the color from your hair and then deposits the current color. You don't get much of a blend and the results can be tricky. I had been dying my medium brown hair with gray quite dark lately. I used a color remover a day before using John Frieda's hair color. So I started out with a bright but light red with blonde streaks. I used Medium Chocolate Brown and ended up with a chocolate brown with a definite red tone with blonde streaks. I didn't have any patches where the hair color didn't cover, it just blended with my current color. It also covered EVERY single strand of gray on my head, and that's saying quite a bit! Every at home hair color contains a conditioner that smells good, sometimes coconut-y, sometimes not. But they all have a scent that screams "I just colored my hair at home". John Frieda's conditioner didn't have that scent. It just smelled like a really good conditioner. My hair came out super soft and super silky. Before trying John Frieda, I was going to try a hair color from Sally Beauty. Now I think I will stick with the John Frieda foam. What's your favorite hair color product and why?

I do color my gray hairs at home too. It's cheaper and like you said, i could do a lot of things while i wait for it to set into my hair. For the back part, i would sometimes ask the assistance of my daughter, if she's at home for school vacations, or if not the woman who irons our clothes. It's always natural black that i color my hair with, because it's the color of my hair.

Just wondering, are you a fan of any particular brand or do you buy whatever is on sale?

Clairol, Garnier, L'Oreal...they all seem to be about the same to me. The John Freida one though is the only one I've found that is different.

I have to say, having your hair colored at the salon is pretty relaxing!
