A Breakfast Containing All 4 Food Groups

As most of you know, I've changed my eating habits from bad to good. I've given up perhaps 90% of all junk foods. Now, I've started to eat a nice healthy breakfast that actually keeps me full for a good 3-4 hours (and no, it's not eggs and bacon and toast and all that). I love All-Bran cereals, so I have All-Bran Bran Flakes mixed with another kind of cereal, a handful of raisins, a few raw walnuts, broken up into pieces, a few raw pecans broken up into pieces, and a cut-up banana. Then I add the milk. There I can have all 4 food groups - whole grains (cereals) - fruits/veggies (banana and raisins) - milk and dairy products (milk) - meat and meat alternatives (nuts). Now, I just recently ran this by my doctor, and since it's just a generalised question it can basically apply to anyone in normal/good health. She also said to aim for eating from all 4 food groups at each meal for a healthy and sustainable diet (which is also good for weight management). BTW the All-Bran products use whole wheat flour, which is much more nutritious and filling than the cereals that use white flour.

Wow Masihi you are doing wonderfully well! I have been a healthy eater now for 3 full years and even I am learning quite a bit from what you are posting during your progress. I will begin to look at all my food groups here on in as well.

It is funny, but both of my kids have mentioned this week that we always had a fruit and a vegetable at our meals. I keep telling them I regret some of the food choices I made when they were growing up, but they keep reminding me that I fed them more healthfully than most of their friends.

Thanks *blush* It'll take me about a couple of weeks to do it for all of my meals, but I know now to aim for that, I'd like to ease into things and make them habitual, so it'll be natural for me to double-check to see if I have all 4 food groups. I didn't realise that I was doing all 4 food groups in my breakfast until recently, actually. :-)

this kind of eating does balance the blood sugar and help you feel full. So does the higher fiber and the healthy fats contained in nuts. You are doing great.

My mother-in-law told me that she shakes cinnamon over her cereal (no sugar, just regular old cinnamon powder) - that's supposed to help stabilise blood sugar as well. Anyway, so much info to take in, I should do that :-p hehehe

I think you are doing fine. Your breakfast (a lot better than mine) has the 4 food groups. I look forward to a picture here of "before" and "after". Keep on going, Masihi!

It'll be a few months before I can release an "after" picture *blush* I don't think I can get down to my desired weight until at least Christmastime, but I"m going to try, anyway.

DEarest, You have 5 kilos less. THAT is desirable. You donñt have to wait until I have to look at you twic to see you once. I had a friend onc that started an intelligent diet, such as the one you are following. You don´t slim down as fast as with those diets where you can only eat a 12 egges verday. But I told her: If you lower down to a smaller jean; by all means buy yourslf something nice to show for it. It does not have to be expensive.

Oh that sounds so delicious! Except for the raisins (I don't know, I just don't like raisins but I eat grapes. LOL). I'll see if I can start eating healthy foods too. Earlier this day, I just finished eating my Cheetos Jalapeno all by myself and I know it's not good to eat junk foods in the morning. I drink a lot of water about 3-4 glasses of alkaline water while eating unhealthy foods and after eating I brush my teeth right away and work out at least 30 minutes/day. I'm not sure if it's enough to prevent myself from having complications. So far my annual physical examinaion is good and still balanced. I'm still young and when I get older it's going to be difficult for me to stay healthy if I won't change my eating habbit.
