Hi there guys, as a person that reads a bit of fanfiction and used to write a bit back then, I wonder... How many people here really do read/write fanfiction, considering the last post was...months ago? Don't be scared to give an answer, it's really not so embarrassing. The reason I stopped writing fanfiction is because... Why have my ideas go to waste on a series that either sucks without me writing, or is better than how I portray it. I thought of going back to the roots of where some of my imagination came from, but I dunno if I rather should. It's to spruce up my writing skill since I don't do so very often. Tell me some stories or experience you have on fanfiction, I may actually say more on it.~

I've only encountered the world of Fanfiction 2 years ago. I was really fascinated because I realized that I'm not the only one who makes up stories about an existing copyrighted materials like novels, movies, shows, etc. Back then I would imagine my own stories at night till I fell asleep, I used to do that because I can't help but imagine the story and the characters acting on my own desires and plot. However, I'm not a good writer so even if I really want to write them down on paper, I couldn't seem to be able to finish it even the story has been done in my mind. Whenever I try to write them, the story would change as I progress so I just stopped trying to publish one. So I was really amazed when I stumble upon the website fanfiction.net and other similar sites. I've read hundreds of fanfics and some of them even have the same plot as mine (but never really been able to write it down), I'm really happy whenever that happens because at least I could read it and the story was actually nicely written by another person. Fanfiction is a really good way to 'run away' from the original story if it's been to depressing or the author won't just pair up your favorite couple finally. It may sound make-believe and wishful thinking at times but I think fanfic authors are great but yes, some of the stories/fanfics out there that really sucks.

I absolutely love fanfiction! I'm not a writer, but I've been an avid (read: obsessive) reader for the past ten years. I think that you should try to dabble in fanfiction again- it is a surefire way to practice your writing skills and test your writing styles on a wide, diverse audience. Quite a few of my favorite fanfic writers have gotten deals to publish books after agents came across their fanfiction. What fandom did you start reading fanfiction in, and what fandoms do you currently read?
