Free Sites vs Paid Sites - in talking about your life

I've been roaming the Internet since 2005 - so that's six years now. I used to just join forums, chat rooms, and Youtube for my social life and boy I found that so many people are so rude! There's a few nice people that I met but not many, to be honest. People just spouted out whatever's on the top of their heads and that was that. Even to this day, I talked about an issue on one forum only to get sharp rebukes from high-and-mighty people. There's one forum that you don't get paid on - and only one - that I never got judged, and the admins are nice and everything. Then there's paid forums like Mylot, I can talk about my life and people are respectful here, I get really sound advise here, I just wish it were that way generally speaking all around. I mean I've lost good friends - or people who I thought were good friends - over some thing I was struggling in! :-( I know we should keep some things private, but we also need to vent, it's therapeutic. But I've noticed in the paid forums and marketing world people are generally more polite than those on youtube or plain old chat rooms. I'm on youtube, but I don't go to chat rooms anymore, and I've posted videos that are neutral now. I've deleted my old account and am just playing with my velizabethwhite account, and haven't had any problems then, thank heavens. It's not a marketing account by any means, just completely neutral stuff like my kids playing on top of this big giant snowball, or me showing an economic christmas idea, that sort of thing.

I used to be on this forum where you talked about your dreams (like your dreams when you sleep) and also ranted and raved. The people were really nice thre, and if they weren't or if someone came along who wasn't we all stood up for one another. As for being rude, I've found that in even paid sites, and honestly I've had to be rude. Now here on mylot I don't see it as much but I remember how I made a discussion about something and there was a rude responder, basically trying to tell me how my life was like, and I was like "you have no idea, so don't judge me." So I'm just letting ya know i kind of know what it's like from both sides.

I think that here people are likely to stand up for you. I am glad they did on the other forum as well.

I can be outspoken if I want to be, lol, if I'm confronted, otherwise I'll just report to an admin. I guess each site is different, it just depends on how the site is run, and what's tolerated and what's not (generally speaking). Some places are more strict than others, I guess.

I agree that on other sites people are a lot more rude than here but maybe I have a target on my back here I don't know because since I have been back a month ago I have already gotten a few not so nice responses. I don't try to offend anyone, maybe its just me...Who knows?

I have learned this over the yrs. as well. A lot of times people who you think are your friends really do not want to hear about your real problems and such and can be quite judgemental for sure. Many could even care less about you, or say they care and never really mean it, or find a way to talk BAD about you behind your back every chance they can. But here in myLot I also feel people are more genuine and that is why I continue to really like being here as well.

That is interesting to know. I have noticed that people seem to get into more drama on places like FaceBook than they do on here. Once in a while people are rude, but if it is really bad, it can be taken care of by admin. I do feel that MyLot is one of the friendliest places I have been.

Oh, man, Facebook is just plain awful!! That's why I have so few friends on it, only people that I'm actively involved in their lives, like a friendship or family member.

As you know I am a very chatty type person as I am very active here. Simply because myLot is a very friendly environment and though some can be a bit rude not terribly, or least that I have encountered. I can't imagine chatting in other forums though as though I can chat away something about getting frustrated and or stressed online is not something I personally care to do.

I am of the view that we should talk politely in chat rooms and also in forums like this. We all come here to help one another and hence should treat others as our own brothers and sisters. I go like that only for the last nearly two months. no issues no problems. good day.

Ya, the golden rule, treat others the way you want to be treated, I try to go by that as well.

I guess when people are on the net, they feel unleashed so they tend to get rude because they could not do that in real life. Also, there ARE a lot of freaks out there. And the ones I hate most are the pervs. That is why I generally avoid chatrooms. I used to hang around a forum on "hair" and other beauty talks, and until now I still do the things I learned there. I stopped when I went back to school and years after that when I tried going back, the people I liked were no longer there and the topics weren't as exciting as they were before, so I quit. And then, MyLot came along and yeah, I like it here. Most times, I really talk about my life here. You're right, it's therapeutic ~ sort of a catharsis during heavy days.
