Hi all, I would like to know about the mini portable sewing machine for house hold. Are they realiable? May I know the best brands available in india? Let me know through your information. Good day.

i am quite sceptical about those 'gadgets', too.. i've been wanting to buy myself a sewing machine, the conventional one, but that would cost a lot.. my husband suggested those mini ones.. but i cant make myself believe that it is good enough.. HOWEVER,... my sister in-law bought one years back, and managed to sew herself brand new curtains for the new year celebrations.. so.. i guess, there some good, trustworthy ones.. GOOD LUCK !!

I remember when those came out in the early 80's. I thought I wanted one, but couldn't see the point as I had a Brother portable sewing machine that I took everywhere. But I don't see that they could be that stable and to workable. I would think that tiny little motor would wear out rather quickly. And you couldn't do to big of a project as the arm opening wouldn't allow it. And it couldn't be that heavy for staying in place so if you have lot of fabric to sew ..it might move alot. I venture to say they were made for repairs and maybe travel repairs, not regular home sewing. Good for fixing a hem or sewing on a button or things like that. Sewing machines that don't do much are so cheap these days that I'd rather have one of those than this little gadget. THey are made of plastic too so they aren't heavy and can do most anything. $99 gets you a pretty decent "cheap"model...like just has straight and zigzag stitches. If you get one..let us know how it works out! I was looking at those tiny little irons and thinking those be great for my quilting pressing...but then my old 25 years old iron is doing just fine so I don't need to spend the money!
