what would you do if you went to a party and your ex appeared with his new girlfriend? would you go and say hello to them? would you leave the party or just ignore them?

It depends in which relation you have remained with your ex. If the split up was ugly, then ignoring them is the best solution, if the split up was a normal thing, then you can salute them. I would never leave a place just because somebody is there, because it would be a sign of weakness from me.
