create a "wednesday worry box"

Philippines

hello all, how is your week so far? this is the time of the week when i feel a little bit of everything ^^ you see, i am practicing the "Wednesday Worry Box" i have read this on a book and it's simple - you might be interested to try it too :) 1. get a box, anything will do. 2. write the things that bothers you in a piece of paper, it doesn't matter if its a petty one or a major one (example, you hate the food served in the pantry during your lunch break, your internet connection is acting up, you are missing your cellphone charger, you don't know how to pay your bills, etc) 3. drop the paper in the box. 4. repeat doing the same things (except getting a box every now and then, lol!) keep on writing your worries, keep on dropping them on the box TIP: if your worries contain personal issues among the members of your household, please keep the box in a safe place or you're dead meat, haha) 5. open the box every Wednesday. read your worries and see if they are still worries or not. if you have resolved any, take the paper out of the box; if unresolved, let it stay in the box and check on the following Wednesday. *** i have been trying this for quite a while and i find it effective. why? i am working during weekdays, so Wednesday is my mid-week day. most people look forward to this day because it's nearing weekend. while i am a little hesitant because i feel it's judgement day every Wednesday. how many of my worries have been solved? how many are unresolved? so, hold on and i am gonna check. be right back... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ok, i'm back! here are some of my worries last week and their results: 1. need to update resume and send it online. (done!) 2. have to go to the dentist's office for teeth cleaning (not done yet! argh) 3. respond to myLots discussion, "she quit on myLOT on her second day!" (not done!! hmmph, i'm soo lazy at times) 4. buy a gift for someone before July 19th (not done, again! shucks!) 5. the stock market is performing bad, i'm losing some investment! (the stock market is doing good now, and i'm happy ;p) 6. myLot earnings is not yet updated (it's updated now, the tasks i completed are credited, i'm happy) am i such a worry-freak? haha do you think the "Wednesday Worry Box" will work for you? or you have other ideas or techniques in handling day-to-day worries/ thanks, myLotters! ^^ Mwuahh

Thanks! I know this can help. I can feel it. Oooops, I never thought I posted two. Connection error again. I actually did it this afternoon and listed out all I want to accomplish and all my worries. Then, like you said, sort them out next week. Can't wait for that.

That is a great idea..I am not much of a worrier, the only thing I worry about is this math class, and I can tell you now, that won't go away until this class is over!! My husband on the other hand worries all the time..Problem is, this takes too much work for him. I'll tell him about it, but I am sure it is one of many solutions that he has heard, and won't even try...

Yep, until August 23, I will continue to worry about it,..But I think my son is willing to put more effort into helping me since I offered to pay him... Which why not, until he gets a job, (which hopefully he has found one) he needs money, so why shouldn't we help him out? I just got to convince my husband of this..

haha, i remember some high school classmates who offered me free lunch by just re-teaching/re-lecturing them on our math subjects (they hated calculus and algebra, haha) :) their famous lines before was, "i hate math and it hates me back!!" ^^

haha. still having troubles with your math class, carmen? i knew many persons who hate math. period. i kind of like Math, this is one of the reasons why i pursued my bachelor course accountancy (ps. its a misconception that if you are an accountant, you are very good in math) i chose to love the subject because everyone hates it. :) i worry about other things though. back in high school much of my worries are related to history/geography subjects :)

That's interesting, I think I will try that. It may help me to digest my stress a little better. Everyone needs to deal with their stress somehow. I hope it helps, I'll let you know next Wednesday when I get the results. In the meantime, that was a great idea. I also think that having someone to talk to about your day to day worries helps a lot. The problem is that not everyone is willing to exchange their thoughts. I guess that's what journals and the "wednesday worry box" is for.

hi kay2010 what's up? :) there are several ways to deal with stress and worries. i agree with you, nothing beats having a real person to talk to. :) although, sometimes most of us are busy with our own lives that we pay less attention to other person's lives.. (I'm guilty of that!)

Sounds interesting, but don't you get depressed with things that stay for too long in the worry box? That's why I avoid putting major issued on my to-do list - it depressed me to see things dated over a year back that I still haven't solved. (If you're wondering, the two things I haven't solved in over a year are: get a new passport and put up my free Latin course online )

yeah, there are times when i get depressed when some issues remain unresolved. :( however though it gives me more inspiration and courage to work on them.. haha, and if ever i see them on the box for too long, it means i haven't been putting much effort in resolving them, so i have to prioritize :) good luck on your passport and Latin course online

Wow! I am not usually a worrier of mass proportions until lately. Things are just a bit hard around here and I have to figure out how to handle it all. It can be very tiring and cause headaches. This seems like a simple but easy way to manage the stress. I think I will try it! Thanks!

nice one. i hope you find this helpful, however there are some people who doesn't find journaling an effective tool in dealing with stress. this is more of a delaying tactic. haha :) but i really hope it works for you :)

This is actually a great idea! It could really help you be more organized, stress-free and know more about yourself at the same time. I think I might try this. I should send all my worries away inside a box and lock it there. Haha!

yep. i hope you can try this and update us if you find it helpful. the main idea about the box is delaying your worries... it sounds un-courageous but i'd do anything to have a stress free day, haha. hope you are having a good one! - kat

Sounds really effective katzar0712.. Thanks for sharing.. But I usually write my thoughts, feelings down..until it builds up on the paper.. and when I feel its all out, depending on the content of what I wrote- I either keep it(*in a box*) or discard it.. after a while, I look at the ones I kept just to see how I feel about whats happened.. and then put them back away..

This is a very effective and efficient way to keep us worry free six days a week. All we got to do is think of the Hakuna Matata ideology for Thursday until Tuesday and every Wednesday gather all the courage you need to open the box and do judgment work. This would help everyone increase their Emotional Intelligence by not reacting on the time one feels frustrated, hence controlling the emotion/madness and giving your self some time to think about things that happened and then, there comes realizations.

i hope you can try this, john. and let's see if its effective for you or not. i'm thinking of suggesting it to other people in the office but i'm worried that it will not be effective though. journaling is ideal for persons who are inclined to writing. i love writing (that's why i'm here in mylot) - but most people are not as enthusiastic as i am. - kat
