What to do with a drunk person

What do I do when a person is too drunk to even hold himself up? I don't have a clue as I haven't been in this situation. He's had a lot of beer and has crashed on the sofa to sleep after trying to throw up "nothing" (sorry guys). He was thrashing about before that and I was paralyzed. It was a scary scene. What should I have done to help him?

Right now just let him sleep until he has sobered up. Do you live with that person? It can really be scary and dangerous to live with someone who gets so drunk that they don't know what they are doing.

I can't sleep. Just watching what will happen and checking if he is okay (like ...still breathing).
