I used many paid antivirus softwares earlier for my window, in spite of them being active on the machine, it kept getting affected by viruses every couple of months. Fortunately i got Microsoft Security Essentials last year, and believe me from last one year i have never had a virus problem with my pc. Its a free software from Microsoft and it is available for download on Microsofts website. Please Share your experience with it or with any other Free Antivirus.

That is rather an interesting question to say the very least. I think that you're going to find a lot of the time that there are going to be people who are extremely passionate about their favorite virus protection program. Most certainly due to the fact that it is a product that they are familiar and rather comfortable with, that they have used from years and years. The bottom line is that all virus protection programs have their pluses and their minuses for sure. I think that in the end, virus protection programs also are not one hundred percent fool proof, whether you use Norton, McAfee, Security Essentials, or any other product on the market. New viruses are likely being whipped up right now as I type and obviously I feel for the people who create this anti-virus software as their job is never done. Just be weary of certain websites on the Internet, don't open e-mails from people that you do not know. Some kind of tool will help take care of things that sneak in and it is important but there are times where something can get past defenses. That is a scary but true fact.

Thanks Megamatt, I agree antivirus softwares are not fool proof, and new malwares keep coming. Prevention is always better than the cure, so people use these antiviruses, Now as micrsoft has provided this antivirus free and it is good as well, people have a choice to save some money on it.

yeah. I have heard Microsoft Security is very good antivirus.. though I am currently using paid antivirus from Symantec and Kaspersky in my two systems.. before I had AVG and Avast.. I found AVG was better than Avast in free version.. but definitely paid antiviruses are better if you purchase license..

Thanks Dude, Microsoft Security Essentials is free but it is as good as many paid Antivirus, Since it's launch, market share of many paid antivirus softwares have came down. It has a good market share and see the reviews are also coming quite well. I suggest every one should try, it works and you can save the money as well.

Best antivirus is ... stay away from web places you do not know. Else, antivirus softwares are doing their job, but this do not protect you complete. Except viruses (virus, worms etc) there are trojans, backdoors openers, adwares and some other types of malwares which are not related to virus group. And there is not a such thing called "perfect safe system". If you surf a lot the net, then the best solution for your pc is ... deep freeze.

I agree Wmraul, Prevention is always better than the cure. We try to avoid the unkown places. Search engines also warn us about some links. But yes, nothing is perfect and we keep getting infected by the malwares. Antivirus software's are also a preventive measure, and if we are getting the same free, its just great.
