Earning extra money offline

In my country we get money when we return the empty bottles and cans to the shops. If it is a small bottle or a can we get 20 cents, if it is a big bottle we get 60 cents. Right now there is a music festival in my town and my husband and I decided to collect some bottles to see if we could make some extra money. We earned $20 in a few hours. When we went to the shop to return the bottles 4 girls were waiting in front of us. They had also been collecting bottles and they had earned more than $100. My husband told me about some people who collected bottles at another festival. They earned $600 in 4 days, I think that is pretty amazing. My husband and I plan on placing our "bottle money" in a separate piggy bank and save up for a trip. It will take a long time to save up money that way, but I think it is worth it. In which ways do you earn extra money offline?

That's a great idea! What country do you live in? My uncle does something similar. He picks up cans and also collects different metals that people put out as trash. Every other day he'll go to the metal place and trade them in for money. He doesn't get anywhere near 20 or 60 cents for each can though. I think they pay by weight here (I live in the USA). He actually doesn't have a job and does this to have some money in his pocket and to help with the bills. If people aren't ashamed about going around picking up trash then it's an awesome way to make some easy money..I mean, everyone drinks soda right? :)

I live in Denmark. It think it is a pretty good system that we have. There is less trash in the streets, because people pick up the empty bottles in order to get the money and we recycle the bottles that people return. At first my husband was against the idea of collecting bottles, he was ashamed and he thought that people would think that we were really poor if did that, but the truth is many people collect the bottles. Children do it, senior citizens do etc. Some of the people do it because they really have to and they spend the money on food. For my husband and me and it just extra money because we both have jobs.

We have both glass bottles, plastic bottles and cans and we get money for all of them. It is nice that we get money for glass bottles as well, because many people choose to turn them into money instead of smashing them in the streets

It is good to hear that you can earn extra money by trading glass bottles as well. In my area here, i saw many people only collecting plastic bottles, cans and papers to exchange for money.

Making bags and jewelry would be a great way to earn some extra money. I have never really tried that, but I know that some of the friends make jewelry. They make some beautiful things. I have made my own cards in the past, and I have earned some extra money that way, but I haven't done it for a while, because I have been busy with other things. I would like to start again one day.

My friends make bags and jewelry and put pictures of them on their Facebook page and a price list and sell them too their friends , making cards is a good idea

There are many ways to earn offline, but most of the ways include common chores that a person does not want to do, or simply does not have the time to do. I am glad though to hear how much you earned just from collecting bottles, and wish I shared the same location. Reason I say that mainly is because when I go on my walks, I have no problem picking up cans along the way. There is just a big difference from my state then some. Here we do not earn the $0.05 - $0.10 per returned can, as some states do, because they make you pay a deposit on the cans. In my state. Scrap prices are just that, scrap prices. But I have learned that 33 normal sized cans equal a pound. So if the going rate of aluminum cans in my state reaches, say $0.75 per pound of cans. I know that each can I collect and find is worth roughly $0.02 each. Now with knowing just that simple piece of information. I can plan on how many cans I would pick up for the day. So once again to the numbers. Say I can go out and pick up roughly 200 cans a day. Not too hard, but I know the basic amount I can earn per can. So 200 cans would work out to $4 a day, $28 a week, and $120 a month.

In my area it would be hard to find 200 cans on a normal day. We get 20 cents per can, and that is both good and bad. It is good because we are able to earn quite a lot of money if we are able to find many cans or bottles. The bad thing about it is fact that everyone knows how much you earn per can or per bottle. Many people keep their bottles instead of throwing them away, because they want the money and that makes it harder to find bottles in the streets. Another thing is the number of bottle collectors. Quite a lot of people collect bottles so have we to be fast in order to get the bottles and we have to pick the right time of the day like early in the morning before the other bottle collectors start. In this week there has been a music festival in my town and the are a lot of bottles in the streets, but on a normal day it is harder to find a lot of bottles. Yesterday my husband and I collected bottles twice, and we were able to get a pretty good amount, because there were about 30000 people at the music festival.

Whenever i had done my spring cleaning, i will collected those unwanted newspapers and books and send them to my nearby recycle centre. There they will weight them and converted them into cash. I usually use the cash for donation to the nearby charity centre. It is good to be able to help someone needy using the money that i had earned from my unwanted items. It is really amazing to see the unwanted items being transformed into money...

I think that it is a really good idea and convert your old things into cash and donate the money to a charity centre In country there are many second hand shops where you can donate your used clothes, old books and magazines, furniture etc. The second hand shops sell the things that they receive and spend the money on charity. The people who work there don't get paid they just do it because they want to help others. I have often donated my old things to those shops and they are always happy to receive the things that people don't want to keep.

Before there is a recycle shop run by charity centre, nearby to my area. Since they are moving to a bigger place but far from my home, so i rather sell it to a nearby recycle centre and donate the money to the nearby charity centre.

Sorry about the late comment. Yes, it is great way to earn some extra money and at the same time it is a way to keep the area clean, because if no one picked up the empty bottles they would just remain in the streets. At the moment it is winter in my country and people don't leave many bottles outside at the moment, because it is too cold to have picnics or just sit outside. Next summer when the music festival starts we are definately going to collect empty bottles again, because we really need the extra money.

The only way i earn money offline is when i call the man from the shop which collects old newspapers and pays us for them.Once in about 2 months i call up the shop which is in our neighbourhood and they send their man to our house. He collects our old newspapers, magazines, plastic bottles and any other thing like old metal etc and takes them to the shop. There it is weighed and then after calculating the amt he returns to our house and gives us the money.

My husband does the same thing to earn extra. He sells whatever he can find in our backyard. And his extra earnings are quite impressive, I might say. He sells plastic bottles like you do, also cardboards and newspapers, scrap metals, and wood. He also sells old issues of magazines to this magazine vendor who in return sells it also to those who are looking for back issues. Every Saturday, he makes himself busy collecting stuff that can be sold. Come Sunday, he will go out early in the morning to sell whatever he was able to collect. Not bad at all for a weekend activity.

I think it great that your husband collects and sells those things. In Denmark it is not easy to sell old magazines. I have tried that a couple of times, but the shops weren't that interested and I only earned a small amount. I have also tried to sell them online, but no one were interested, so I gave up that idea. It is much easier to sell bottles because as long as they were bought in Denmark the shops always take them. German cans are worthless, the shops don't want them and they are just lying around in the streets because no one picks them up.

Hi Porcospino, It is very interesting that you earn money by retuning empty bottles and cans. In our country there is no such practice of earning extra money. Really it is amazing. In our cities there are many street urchins. If we have such system the poor kids could earn some money by collecting empty cans and bottles.

That is true, a system like that would be a way for the poor kids to earn some money. In my country some poor people spend the money that they receive from the bottles on food. Yesterday I was having dinner in a restaurant and while I was there a man came in. He told the owner that we had earned $15 from collecting bottles and that he wanted to spend it on a pizza. The man was homeless and the bottles were his way for him to get food. For my husband and me it just extra money, we don't depend on the money, but it is still a nice way to earn a little extra money.

yes the scrap gives a lot of money , here old newspapers are sold for money and they are in return made to paper bags to sell to retail shops.Old glass bottles and plastic containers are used for reuse purpose. Clothing is used to make mats for the home ,which we cna use at the entrance of doors to wipe the feet and avoid dust .Everythign can be reused ,only if we have the interest in it.

That is true, there are so many things that we can recycle if we want to. I think it is nice that we recycle the bottles in my country, I have visited other countries where they just throw the old bottles away. I recently bought a wallet that was made by used coffee bags. I think that is great to recycle something that most people just throw away and the wallet is a very unique. In my art I recycle old magazines from the 60's and the 70's. I use the pictures and combine them with paint.

it wont take you long you lucky person!!!! In my state we only get paid for aluminum cans but it is just cents cause we get paid 55 cents for every POUND of aluminum cans. I dont know if you know but these cans are very light and it is very hard to collect enough for $20 dollars worth. You will not have to wait that long to get your trip. People recycle "stuff" for a living. I do it as a side job and I make some good money. Look around for that copper that is great stuff. Just get alot of copper and bring it to a recycling place and they will pay you roughly $3 a pound. And if you dont know copper is in everything! alot brass is a great metal to sell to them. It is quite fun try it some time. but now to get back to helping you collect all the bottles that your family gets and then break off from there ask you friends and family for their bottles and then even go post in the free classifieds that you are looking for bottles you might be surprised HAPPY SCRAPPING

When you are busy with college it can be hard to find time for extra earnings as well. My husband and I work at night and we sleep when we get home. In the afternoon we walk around and collect the empty bottles from the festvial. The festival is a big event on our island and there are lots of people and lots of bottles to find at the moment. I think that I would be great to spend the money on a trip and I look forward to seeing how much we will be able to earn when during the festival.

Wow! That is a nice way to earn money. You just don't earn money, but you also help save the environment by doing recycling. Yes, in our country too, a lot of people are making a living by collecting scraps and recyclable materials and selling them into junk shops. Even children in the streets are doing this to earn money. In our home, I also implemented segregation of recyclable wastes with our trash. Newspapers, plastic and glass bottles and cans are separated and stored. Whenever we feel that the stock is growing we sell it to the junk shops or individuals who are roaming around to buy such kind of junks. It is like a good return or salvage value savings from those things that we brought and used. Keep that activity up and I hope you'll reach your target pot money for your trip!

I think it is great that you have decided to separate the recyclable things from the trash. It is a way to earn some extra money and it is a good idea to recycle the things that can be recycled instead of throwing everything away. My husband and I just returned to our home, we have collected bottles today as well. It is the last day of the festival and there were a lot of bottles and cans in the streets. We picked everything up and returned them to the shop. There is less trash in the streets now and we earned some extra money, so we killed two birds with one stone

Art and crafts sound like a nice way to make some extra money. I have never learned to crochet, but I knit, draw and paint. I have an online gallery where I sell my paintings, but I don't sell much that way. It it is usually easier for me to sell something when I have an exhibtion at a cafe or something like that and people are able to see my things in person. Where do you sell your things?
