Slowly jog for five minutes before your workout to gradually increase your heart rate and core temperature. Then cool down after exercising with five minutes of slower movement. This will prevent an abrupt drop in blood pressure and helps alleviate potential muscle stiffness.

Warming up before exercising is important also to prevent muscle injury; stretching before exercising really does not do any good and may do harm if you aren't warmed up.

Yes, that is why warming up and cooling down before and after an activity is very important. I used to be riddled with body aches after jogging before I knew about this. You can really feel the huge difference you practice warming up/cooling down along with stretching.

I always followed the earlier part i.e warm up a and exercise. But I was not aware of the way to cool down. You've made me realise a very important point. It is quite useful to those who exercise regularly.

HI, there! :) If someone is planning to have a workout, it is really advisable if he/she will have a warm up exercise before doing any of the exercises he/she desires and after that, have a cool down. That's for a better and healthier body. :)

Good information to have for everyone here on mylot. I do this all the time and even during the day I slowly get worked up to it so that I can be limber. I know a lot of people who get injuries as a result of not having done a warm up.
