Again this is perhaps my third thread regarding sedentary lifestyle. Today was really a special day, because of two eye-opening articles. The first one was in yahoo today and it was about an xbox gamer who was killed by a pulmonary embolism caused by sitting in the same position for several hours. Then this article which tells about the findings of a study that sedentary lifestyle causes more deaths than smoking. Tsk... tsk... Anyway you can check the out the whole article for more info: http://www.naturalnews.com/001547.html I don't smoke but I have a really disturbing sitting habits that I really need to change.

This post is a good reminder. I have known that our body is designed to move to stay healthy. I have read about it on my Repetitive Strain Injury book. What I haven't known is that it could be deadlier than smoking. I'll go through it again later.

Thanks :) Yup it's definitely an eye opener. I was also surprised that it's deadlier than smoking but like you said it's logical since we're not designed to be idle all the time or just sitting in one position.

Well I used to go to the gym but stopped because it's time consuming. Anyway, you can always exercise at home or during weekends or your free time. Like I have mentioned earlier, studies say that taking breaks regularly like 5 minute break from sitting helps.

We have been taught again and again in health class that sedentary lifestyle attracts more health complications. The more active we are in life the more we keep diseases away. The gamer seemed to have gone through an extreme case and much of it has to do with his habit of not taking a break. My own mom is too into sedentary life. She has been like this for about 20 years now. She watches television 4 hours and then sleep more than 10 hours. She hardly walks. The results she received from this are diabetes and weight gain.

My mother-in-law and i keeps on reminding my father-in-law to at least walk around the neighborhood. He has a heart by pass long time ago and is fat with very big stomach. Lately, another medicine for his blood sugar has been added to his bunch of maintenance pills. That's because he is so lazy and all he does is watch TV lying down in their bedroom. He would just get up if he pees and eat. After that back to his watching TV. He doesn't care to move around or heed our reminders. Now, his knees hurt whenever he stands because his knees cannot take his weight anymore.

That is really disturbing, I'm also sitting a lot. I think it's time for me to change my habit and life style. I also feel that my body is weakened after many years of having not active in many outdoor games and exercise. Well, thank you for reminding me, this is a nice post my friend, keep up the good work. God bless you! =)

Wow, I didn't read the article, just a little scanning. But if it's really true, it's shocking. I'm not really living a sedentary lifestyle but I do sit in front of the computer for so long hours, just sitting and that worries me. I must change and my body must be more active now.
