my little sisters boyfriend has recently got a job in a new gym that has opened up in town. it has cheap membership fee's, excellent facilities, easy to get to via bus or taxi, not really that good of a parking place if you've a car but i'm sure a lot of people would also walk, as a warm up. he put my name down for a free vip membership pass, to see if i liked it, but to be honest i don't think i've any interest. i would like to go to support his new employment venture, but at the same time, i don't want to be talked into signing up.. 1. i can't really afford it. 2. i already walk to and from work everyday. 3. i hate pretentious posing gym freaks. 4. i'm very slim and don't WANT to loose any weight. i love the size i am. so i don't know what to do? he has to hand in a certainnumber of leads on a regular basis so he gave his whole phone book to his boss lol. today he asked me for mine. theres no harm in it. they ring you, offer you the pass and if you wanna go you go, and if you don't you don't lol. does anyone belong to a gym? and if not, would you like to?

Does the gym have any extras like a pool? We have a gym here that has a pool. It's actually a rehab place too for those recovering from surgeries. If it did I would use the free pass to go swimming. Maybe they have a sauna or something? Sweating is suppose to be good for releasing toxins in your body. I have not been to a "real" sauna but I have been to a Native American sweat ceremony. There was this small teepee like thing everyone went into and those rocks you heat up. It was really special. When I came out I felt so refreshed! If it's just a regular gym maybe you can just go and "fake exercise" ha ha gt on a treadmill and go as slow as possible.

see i'm scared to loose weight, i'm a uk size 10, and have a marilyn monroe hourglass figure, and what i do, exercise, food etc, maintain this figure. and i know people say oh but go to the gym to tone up and get fit, not loose weight.. but obviously you loose weight on what the hell's the point then lol! i just don't think i'll bother. ps] i don't think a sauna would be a good idea.. i get ratty when i'm too warm! haha!

I don't go to gym. I lack of excercise actually. So if you see me, my skin is not firm. I'm too thin and I'm afraid that I'll get muscles. Muscles only looks good to men. Although, membership fee is cheap here in the philippines, I still don't feel like doing it. If I will do it, I don't like other people watching me. haha..

lol i don't really care about other people watching me. i get quite a lot of attention because of my tattoo's and hair lol, so i don't really mind.. but just remember, they are probably thinking the exact same thing and are worried about people watching them too! :)

For me if you love to do that that's good if not then don't waste your time better to do that in your home and buy the kind of thing's in your body for to gym.

yea! i prefer the idea of buying a few at home work out products and be able to listen to music, or watch tv, or talk to my partner while i work out, and have her work out with me!

Well I would try the VIP member pass (since it's free) and give the whole thing a chance. Who knows, you might end up really enjoying it! And if money's an issue, you can use the pass until it's invalid and that way at least you can support your sister's boyfriend while not really putting a strain on your finances. Also, I just want to say that the gym isn't strictly for losing weight. Same with working out. It's good way to increase your physical endurance, and over all health. Just as little as 30 minutes of working out a few days a week is a good way to keep your health in check, whether you do or don't go to a gym :)

yeah, i suffer from depression actually and i've been told that exercise is a good way to relieve stress and actually helps a lot with depression.. and i suppose you are right, the pass is free, so i may as well. it's just because i walk to and from work everyday, so i'm already getting more than 30 minutes of exercise, because i walk really fast i don't just doddle lol! thats the only main factor thats putting me off, is i don't think i have time for much more exercise lol!

Joining a gym is just like enrolling your self for some dance class or something like that. Basically, gyming is working out..But as you said you are slim and walk everyday..So i don't think you should be enrolling for it. And if the thing is that you cannot say no to your sister's boyfriend..Then maybe you should try n make him understand that you already are slim and have a walk daily, so basically you don't need a workout.. But as you have also written you want to support his new employement..So why not try for one month. And later if he still forces you to sign up..So do so..And only work out on weekends or whenever you have an off from work and that to just for an hour. This will keep you in shape..and maybe a better body. And to end this..I want to answer your last question. YESS..I would like to go to gym just to stay in shape and getting slim.

yeah, maybe your right. thats my point. i don't want to loose weight, and i know people say, oh it's not just for loosing weight, it's to tone up and stay in shape and its good for you etc, but no matter what people say, you still end up loosing weight from going to a gym and i really don't want to loose any weight. i'm a uk size 10, and i have curves, and a marilyn monroe hourglass figure and i love it.. and i just don't want to loose any weight, i maintain this weight very easily and i would hate to end up really skinny! but i suppose i could try it for a little while, just to support him, and let his bosses see him doing well.

Gyms are awesome! Meet new people, make new friends, get in shape, stay in shape, swim, dance, lift, get pumped! Its awesome once you get in there. Also depends on the gym. I go to LifeTime if your familiar with it. Its a huge gym, makes a difference in my life. I get to forget all my problems there. Its an escape to work out and get fit, you look better. Its not about loosing weight. Its about staying fit and looking better. Helping your friend out would be nice, you will get benefits i assure you in return. You will build a better relationship with him, showing him you care about his goals. You never know, you might need his help in the future. :-) try it ouy, if you dont like it tell him the truth, never make excuses. It will bite you in the future.

yeah, i think your right. i don't really care that much about meeting any new people, or making any new friends. as terrible as this sounds i'm sort of content with the way my life is, and whos in it and whos not.. so i don't really think i'll be wanting to strike up any relationships with anyone i meet in a gym. however i do like the idea of helping him out. he's my sisters boyfriend and they have been together for over 2 years and heading in the direction of a ring on her finger.. and this is his first proper job since he finished university, so i suppose i could do my bit to support him, atleast if his bosses see his references are coming in and TRYING the gym, even if they don't join, it'll be a good credit to him. thanks!!
