In some countries you spend 10 years at school and in some you spend 13 years. What should be the right amount at school?

I think that there is no set amount of years that would be considered "right" or "wrong", it's just that different countries do things in different ways. I went to school in the U.S., and I went for 14 years, because I did one year of pre-school before I started Kindergarten. I also know some people who never completed all four years of high school (US high school).

I think one should spend 13 years at school, i.e. from 5 year-old to 18 year-old.

In India, it was 11 years earlier, this has now been reduced to 10, with 2 years of pre-university followed by university. Many schools offer the 2 years of pre-university, so in effect we are talking of a 10+2+3/4/5 system for getting a degree. A normal bachelor's degree in science, arts or commerce is 3 years, an engineering degree is 4 years, while some specialized degrees and degrees for medicine are 5 years. Post graduate degrees like masters and doctorates require more time. Which system s better? I think it all depends on the country, the levels of education, the quality of education, the literacy rates, the urgency of need for a skilled and educated work force for that country, etc.

i think there is no "right amount of years" to be in school. as they say, education is a lifetime endeavor. the school system of every country has a mandated or prescribed number of years to obtain a degree which signifies that a set of necessary skills has been gained by the holder of such degree. in the philippines, one needs to attend school for 14 years to attain a degree.

It may depend upon the country you are in and also the course you wanna study. For me it is my 17th year study and this is my last year. I studied pre-primary. then class 1 till 12 and then got a chance to study B.Tech in CSE which is four years course. So it makes 17 years in total.

It really depends on you. Some people spend only 12 years in school. They somehow some because of financial and lack of interest to pursue study. But for me I have spent 16 years in study, started on kindergarten until college. i think that is enough to have a good job and good understanding to the society.
