"[b]Give a man a book he can read; And his home is bright with a calm delight, Though the room be poor indeed.[b]" We all love to read. Reading to mind is what exercise is to body. The joy of reading a new book, is just like the delight of setting on a new pursuit. Books are like our best companions, which never fail us. Reading books is like having conversation with some of the finest minds to have lived. They are accessible at all times, in all moods, and frankly declare the author's mind. An author needs no more introduction other than mentioning his greatest work. Two of the greatest powers of an author are, "to make new things familiar, and familiar things new". Shakespeare, Mark Twain, R W Emerson, Sidney Sheldon, Agatha Christie, Dan Brown and many great minds have shared with us their treasures of knowledge in their masterpieces. The art of narration has developed and has become the most powerful tool in the hands of an author. Still, one of the most difficult challenges faced by modern authors is "originality", because apart from being tested on the basis of freshness in their work, they are also judged if they can say things in a manner they had never been said before. Share with us, about your favorite author and his best creations. What do you like the most about his writing, which pulls you back to read his books again and again. "After all, an author can have nothing truly of his own, but his style."

I am an avid fan of Mario Puzo. I have copies of all the books he has written. Of course, The Godfather is my favorite among his work. JK Rowling is another great writer. Her books, The Harry Potter Series have connected people from different generations. She made parents and children, men and women share and enjoy the stories. She has also made non book readers curious and has transformed them to read.

i am a big fan of Alistair McLean and Jeffrey Archer. McLean writes adventure. He has this amazing way of twisting the plot near the end, like some sort of blind turn with a huge truck coming at you from the other side. his sense of humour is fantastic, his characters distinct and lifelike, his descriptions vivid; and of course, the action is totally keeps-u-on-d-edge type thrilling!! he's really one of his class! Jeffrey Archer is exceptional. his plots are amazing and his style of narration always makes it only more interesting. he's covered many genres including political plots, and what makes him exceptional is that even those plots hold the same interest for me as others!! which is truly commendable for i find politics REALLY BORING. his collection of short tales is incredible too!! he's a really talented author... :)

Hi vkatrix ! Its said that one must choose an author as one chooses a friend". And I must say those two are indeed very good companions you've got. Like I said in my post, an author is tested not only on the basis of freshness in his work, but also how easily can he frame old things in a new style. After all, an author leaves a great impact in the reader's mind, not by what he says, but by what he can whisper in their ears. Thanks and enjoy mylotting.

Hi whispers ! Truly, reading is absolute joy. The following quotes may describe my ideas about reading- "Of all the human relaxations which are free from guilt, none is so dignified as reading" Sir Samuel E Brydges. "The first time I read an excellent book, it is to me just as if I had gained a new friend: when I read over a book I have pursued before, it resembles the meeting with an old one." Oliver Goldsmith Thanks and enjoy mylotting. :)
